Man United are entering the race for Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana
Manchester United have entered the race for Monaco's Youssouf Fofana according to reports as they look to strengthen their midfielders.
After a quiet start to the window, United have been busy and have now signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna and young full-back Leny Yoro from Lille.
The Red Devils have identified a number of other targets and are believed to be in talks over moves for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte and Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.
United enter the race for Fofana
United are thought to be in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park as there are doubts surrounding the future of several midfielders.
The club are thought to be open to letting Casemiro leave, with interest from the Saudi Pro League said to have slowed, although progress on a potential exit has slowed.
Erik ten Hag's side did not take up the option to buy Sofyan Amrabat following his loan move from Fiorentina, while Scott McTominay is attracting interest from Fulham, Tottenham and Galatasaray.
United have identified Uruguay international Ugarte as a target, but reports have suggested they may not be willing to meet the 23-year-old's €70m asking price.
However, Italian agency Di Marzio have reported that United have joined the race for Frenchman Fofana.
The report added that AC Milan were the Frenchman's favourites, but with United and Atletico Madrid entering the race they are exploring other targets.
According to Di Marzio, Monaco has increased Fofana's asking price to €35m even though there is only one year left on his contract.
Fofana impressed for Monaco last season as he played 35 games in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
The Frenchman is versatile in midfield and can play as a defensive midfielder and on the right which could appeal to United.
Fofana's deal will be cheaper than Ugarte's, although if United do decide to pursue the 25-year-old they may face stiff competition for his signature.
