Jaron 'Boots' Ennis: The Road to Superstardom Lies at 154

Jaron 'Boots' Ennis has many options to choose from at 154 with important fights that will increase his popularity. He has not said whether he will stay at 147 or move up, but it is believed that he will listen to his promoter and stay at welterweight to combine all the belts.

Some fans believe that Ennis, 27, is a chicken and a chicken and is afraid to move up to 154 for fear of being beaten by Crawford or some of the killers in this division.

All Ennis has to do is move up to 154 and point out these fighters:

Terence Crawford
Sebastian Fundora
Errol Spence
Tim Tszyu
Vergil Ortiz Jr
Israel Madrimov
Serhii Bohachuk
Erickson Lubin

At least seven of them would clean house if they dropped to 147 and took the three remaining belt holders, Eimantas Stanionis, Mario Barrios, and Brian Norman Jr.

Welterweight Stagnation

It's a weak team with those titles, so Ennis doesn't gain much by staying at 147 plus. Boot Ennis' promoter, Eddie Hearn, wants him to stay at welterweight, believing that he will achieve something important by being the undisputed champion.

I don't see it this way. It's a waste of time because the three guys Boot will fight for those belts are famous and unknown to casual boxing fans. They have never heard of Stanionis, Barrios and Norman Jr.

“You saw his ability to seamlessly transition through combinations. The way he stepped on Avanesyan, he took his strength, he took it on the chin, he was not afraid of it at all, he continued to work. The kid is smart,” Tim Bradley said on Probox TV about Jaron 'Boots' Ennis.

“That's why no one wants to fight Boot Ennis because they see exactly what I see. He is a problem for anyone in the division, which is why everyone has continued to avoid him.”

Crawford's fear

Crawford has said that he does not want to fight Boot Ennis. However, he is using the excuse of wanting to get a payday and build up to his fight with Canelo Alvarez at super middleweight. However, if money is driving Crawford's engine, why is he fighting Madrimov?

The money Crawford will get fighting him is not even close to that fighting Boots Ennis. It seems like an irrational fear on the part of Crawford, who also chooses Madrimov while avoiding the Boots.

Crawford is 37, so you can give him a break and let him pick based on eligibility. It's similar to what Canelo did towards the end of his career.

“I saw a determination to go to the end and a killer instinct,” boxing expert Paulie Malignaggi said of Boot Ennis. “A guy like Crawford can control the range a little bit. I saw a lack of intelligence in the way Jaron closed the range. The guy who makes you work to close the distance, you have to be more creative. But it's also possible that Jaron didn't have to work to close.”

Ennis understands that if he had boxed Avaneysan and played it safe, the fans would have criticized him for being boring, and his popularity would not have increased. So, he was willing to take risks to have fun.

“Avanesyan is there. “You just walk up to him and start throwing combines and you can be in the pocket,” Malignaggi said.

Ennis had no choice but to pull Avanesyan because he was heading towards him, and he is not a runner. Boots doesn't use all of the tactics we've seen Crawford use throughout most of his career, like walking around the ring, throwing a lot of jabs, and doing a lot of the same things Shakur Stevenson does defensively.

This is a different era now, and fighters can't do that without hurting their sales. Crawford fought that way, but it slowed down his career growth. He didn't get famous until last year against Spence.

“Personally, I would like to see him meet at 147. “I see him beating all the other champions and being able to put that division together,” Chris Algieri said of Ennis. “He had been out of the ring for a year. You need to be busy. Now he has an advertising arm in Matchroom which keeps him busy.”

Algieri's Conservative approach

The way Algieri wants to follow Boot Ennis will be poison to his career, and he will be wasting his time if he follows that path. Once again, the three reigning welterweight champions are completely unknown to the casual boxing fan.

If they don't know who those guys are, Bhuti has nothing to gain by fighting them. Hardcore fans can be happy, but Ennis will put his career on hold and have nothing to show for the time and effort invested in this.
