Peter Kostis' one-ball drills will improve your game

In addition to sharing the latest golf news in each episode of Peter Kostis and Gary McCord's podcast, Off Their Rockers, a GOLF production, Kostis, a GOLF Top 100 Teachers Lifetime Achievement honoree, is also passionate about helping recreational players develop their games.

And another easy way to see better results is to use one ball, which Kostis recommends because it helps players practice hitting the shots they need. when they need them – a critical skill for course success.

“Once you've developed your golf swing, you have to learn how to do it with each club if you want,” Kostis said. “It's not a matter of trying to topple the other [ball] repeating that shot.

“Practice like this is important for improving your skills, but one ball after another with the same club never happens on the golf course.”

Kostis recommends that you practice playing a round of golf on the driving range. Using a rangefinder like his Foresight QuadMAX can be useful for tracking your distances with each club, but the basic gist of a drill is to hit shots as far as you would on the course, making yardage and club selection accurate. as you can.

The important thing to remember, Kostis said, is to handle each gun with the respect and normality you would during a round.

“I'm not going to just hit an 8-iron. I will do all my work,” said Kostis. “I'll take my practice wings, whatever I normally do on the golf course. Get a sense of my rhythm, get a sense of my time. Choose my target, enter my setup program.”

Making the one-ball drill a regular part of your workout routine will give you academic benefits, says Kostis.

“Practice playing golf on the driving range. Create patterns of one-ball success,” he said. “Trust me, it will help you shoot lower scores and it will really help you feel more comfortable when you walk to the first tee.”
