USA vs Zambia: Preview, predictions, team news

The USA begins its quest for a fifth gold medal on July 25 against Zambia at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The US Women's National Team is looking to get off to a strong start at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The Stars and Stripes may have the most gold medals in women's soccer, but they haven't won gold since 2012. Now, under new coach Emma Hayes, the USWNT is enjoying an unbeaten run heading into their first Group B match.

Zambia just entered the competition three months ago. The Cooper Queens are drawn in Group B with the USA, Germany, and Australia, giving them three tough opponents in just their second Olympics.

Here it is 90 min USA vs Zambia guide to Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The USWNT was able to play to a draw against Costa Rica in the final international friendly before traveling to France, but the Stars and Stripes were without two starters, Jenna Nighswonger and Rose Lavelle. Fortunately, both players are sitting out as a defensive measure, and will be ready to face Zambia.

Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson are two forwards who have found great success under Emma Hayes, and will be heavily relied upon to carry the scoring load for the USWNT in France.

USA predicted to face Zambia (4-3-3): Naeher; Fox, Girma, Davidson, Nighswonger; Lavelle, Horan, Coffey; Rodman, Smith, Swanson

Zambia has been the last team to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Back in April, Cooper Queens defeated Morocco in a two-legged qualifier in the fourth round of the 2024 CAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament, placing them in Group B.

Zambia will be led by Barbra Banda of Orlando Pride who has 12 goals in only 12 games this season in the NWSL. Banda is one of the most in-form strikers in women's football right now, and she will have to come out on top if Zambia are to hang with the USWNT.

Zambia predicted to face USA (4-3-2): He hates him; Siamfuko, P Zulu, Mweemba, Tembo; H Chanda, Wilombe, M Zulu; Chitundu, Kundananji, Banda

The USA should come out victorious in their first Group B match at this summer's Olympics. It's hard to imagine the unbeaten USWNT finally facing Zambia, who have won just twice in 2024. Also, Emma Hayes' side have yet to concede a goal with their new manager on the sidelines.

Prediction: USA 2-0 Zambia
