INEOS holds internal talks for 33 y/o free agent; scored 3 goals vs Man Utd

In an attempt to provide cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Manchester United are reportedly holding internal talks to sign the Premier League defender who is now a free agent.

With the Premier League campaign and their first game against Fulham fast approaching, Manchester United are in a strong position. The Red Devils have already welcomed both Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, while negotiations to sign Manuel Ugarte are also ongoing. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder could yet arrive to solve United's midfield problem and replace Casemiro permanently at the bottom of Erik ten Hag's side.

Meanwhile, even after signing Yoro, United could still strengthen their backline with more additions. Recent reports have linked those at Old Trafford with a move for Denzel Dumfries in a deal that would see Aaron Wan-Bissaka head to the other side of Inter Milan this summer. Both players are in the final year of their contracts, so, on paper, the swap deal makes sense.

If Dumfries does arrive, he could be joined by another new face at full-back and one that United fans already know all about. According to HITC, INEOS has held internal talks about signing Marcos Alonso this summer in a bargain deal for the former Chelsea defender who recently left Barcelona as a free agent. Alonso is not the only United left-back to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, however, with Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell, Feyenoord's David Hancko and Tottenham's Sergio Reguillon also in the mix.

The Red Devils, of course, know exactly what Alonso is capable of, having scored three goals against United throughout his career. Now, however, the Spaniard can bring his attack to Old Trafford in a smart move for INEOS.

“Good” Alonso can add valuable experience

While a squad full of young talents like Yoro, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hoijlund and Alejandro Garnacho highlight Manchester United's strength in numbers, balancing that skill with experience is key. And that's exactly what Alonso can help bring to the Ten Hag's side. The winner of the Champions League and Premier League, the Spaniard, unlike many in the current Red Devils squad, has been there and done it at the top.

The 33-year-old received high praise in his final Premier League season from former manager Frank Lampard, who told Chelsea's website after Alonso scored twice against Bournemouth: “I'm very happy for Marcos Alonso but when my left-back scored two goals and scored our last goal in the league – and we created so many chances in the middle – you have to wonder why they didn't finish.

“I'm very happy with Marcos. He's always had that since he was at Chelsea, he's got a good record of scoring goals. It's a good way for the first one, to look forward to the second one and he almost got the third one. in the box at the end.”
