'We want silverware' – Maddison explains Tottenham's goals for the new season

If you ask any Tottenham fan what they want more than anything, the answer would be a trophy.

The North London club have been without silverware for over 16 years and despite coming close a few times in the last few seasons, they have never managed to get over the line.

From the Carabao Cup final to the Champions League final in Madrid, it has been a losing streak for Spurs but James Maddison is looking to end the drought under Ange Postecoglou this season.

The former Leicester midfielder is an FA Cup winner and knows what it takes to get the job done and with a year to settle at Spurs now, he is ready to go on and win.

Speaking to the media about the club's pre-season tour in Asia he said: “Obviously it was our first season working with a new manager. It was a great season. I think we learned a new way of playing, a new philosophy, but I think we have to strive to have more than just a good season.

“We have to achieve big things and make history and really get silverware.

“We do that by continuing to develop as a team, as players, we are looking to get better and that is the beauty of starting a new season.

“We must strive to have a better season. We want silver and we want to make history.

“We benefited from having a year under the manager and now we can kick.

“Obviously we are a better year in knowing what you want from us and the messages are clear and there and we discuss a lot about what we should be doing and how we want to play and the philosophy that is Tottenham Hotspur and our team. way.”

“We talk a lot about that and I hope that can bring us success and we will all be very happy then.

Spurs finished fifth in the Premier League last season, just missing out on Champions League football.

But the Europa League gives them a real chance to lift the trophy against a lesser team than they would face in Europe's biggest competition.

They will have to compete with Manchester United but there will be no fear from Spurs under Postecoglou as they will take their attacking football overseas.

Spurs continue their pre-season tour with a game against Vissel Kobe on Saturday, before taking on the K League All-Stars.

After that, they will face Bayern Munich twice a week and will also meet two familiar faces in Harry Kane and Eric Dier.
