Who is Filip Jorgensen? Everything Chelsea fans need to know about the goalkeeper's goal
As they seem to be each time transfer windowChelsea are in the market for a goalkeeper this summer.
Their search for a new number has led them to 22-year-old Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, with the club reportedly launching a €20m bid to secure his services.
So who are you? And are you right?
Well, these are the questions we have 90 min I am here to answer you.
You are welcome.
First, Jorgensen is a reliable shot stopper. Despite scoring 65 goals and keeping just six clean sheets in the 2023/24 season, Villarreal would have posted more had Jorgensen not been between the sticks – the goalkeeper made a La Liga-high 143 saves during the campaign.
As well as his ability between the sticks, Jorgensen is also a goalkeeper who plays the ball well.
The 22-year-old's passing has been vital for Villarreal in the 2023/24 campaign, completing over 1,000 passes at 44.7 successful passes per 90 minutes for his club.
Considering the style of play that new manager Enzo Maresca wants to implement, Jorgensen would be the perfect player to allow Chelsea to play at the back.
The lack of clean sheets is clearly a concern, though that could be equally down to Villarreal's back four being less than waterproof.
Another concern is Jorgensen's lack of command of his penalty area. He is only 22 years old, but the goalkeeper is used to struggling with set pieces and balls rolling into the box. The fact that he only stopped 5.2% of the crosses that entered his box at Villarreal proves this.
It's definitely something that needs to be worked on.
Jorgensen won the first place at Villarreal ahead of the 2023/24 season after being promoted to the first team in Group B.
From then on, he never really looked back.
As mentioned earlier, Jorgensen's stopping and passing skills were key for the yellow submarine throughout last season, helping them finish a respectable eighth in La Liga.
His form with the club was so good, in fact, that he earned himself a new five-year contract at the end of the campaign.
Passing and skill calls out to Ederson, which will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans as the club currently do not have a goalkeeper on the books (although they currently have around a million goalkeepers).
The way he made many of his saves – one-handed and presumably with the cameras in mind – reminds us a bit of David De Gea.
Quite a combination if you ask us.
