2024 Summer Olympics soccer results: USA, France, Spain win

There were 25 goals in the 2024 Summer Olympics football results on Saturday, including the role played by Premier League players and wins by heavyweights such as Argentina, France and Spain.

Team USA recorded a huge margin of victory, ending a 16-year wait for an Olympic goal with three strikes before halftime.

Two extra goals settled a five-goal second-half deficit between Israel and Paraguay in a tournament where all but three players from each team are required to be under 23.

Here's a round-up of the results from a day where Ukraine, Egypt and Japan also collected three points each.

USA vs New Zealand: USMNT goals glut

After their first defeat against France, the USMNT team started their second game as goals from Djordje Mihailovic and Walker Zimmerman gave Marko Mitrovic's side a 2-0 lead against New Zealand after 10 minutes in the games in Paris.

Gianluca Busio added another after 30 minutes and Paxten Aaronson made it 4-0 in the second half. Jesse Randall pulled one back with 12 minutes remaining for the Kiwis, three points behind.

Argentina vs Iraq: Copa America champions win

Argentina were on the verge of a draw after their defeat to Morocco when Thiago Almada headed in from Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez.

Iraq were level going into the break with a header from captain Aymen Hussein, but substitute Luciano Gondou put Argentina back in front and Ezequiel Fernandez made it 3-1 with an eye-catching goal.

Spain vs Dominican Republic: Euro 2024 stars are flying

Two of Spain's Uefa Euro 2024 winners scored as La Roja defeated the Dominican Republic 3-1 in Bordeaux to reach the quarter-finals.

Fermin Lopez and Alex Baena scored either side of Angel Montes De Oca's surprise header to equalize for the underdogs, which Edison Azcona drew 1-1. Miguel Gutierrez added the third in the 70th minute.

France vs Guinea: The hosts look to win

Manager Thierry Henry had to wait until the 75th minute for his team to get the breakthrough against a Guinean team that provided an even contest.

Bayern Munich's new signing Michael Olise produced the necessary moment of brilliance, curling an inviting cross that was expertly met by Freiburg defender Kiliann Sildillia to continue France's good start.

Ukraine vs Morocco: The result makes history

Ukraine got their first win of the tournament in dramatic fashion, with Ihor Krasnopir's winner coming on the run of the game in the 10th minute of extra time.

Dmytro Kryskiv had given Ukraine a goal in the 22nd minute but Morocco looked more likely to win after Soufiane Rahimi scored a second-half penalty, awarded to fellow defender Volodymyr Salyuk, who was sent off for the offence.

Paraguay vs Israel: The latest drama

Paraguay lost their opener 5-0 against Japan and could have hoped to bounce back when Marcelo Fernandez's goal put them ahead at half-time.

Brighton & Hove Albion livewire Julio Enciso gave them a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Omri Gandelman and Israel's Oscar Gloukh. The score remained level until the 93rd minute, when Fabian Balbuena made it 3-2 before Fernandez scored a second in the 96th minute.

Japan vs Mali: Yamamoto won

Mali had 16 of 26 attempts on goal in Bordeaux but Japan's 1-0 win means they are the only Group D team with more points.

Rihito Yamamoto scored the winner in the 82nd minute to guarantee Samurai Blue a place in the quarter-finals with a game to spare.

Uzbekistan vs Egypt: The Pharaohs are closing in

Ahmed Koka scored the winning goal in the 11th minute in Nantes to send Egypt into the quarter-finals and knock out Uzbekistan.

Even Koka might concede a late goal with a bit of luck, Mukhammadkodir Khamraliev inadvertently sending the ball through the midfielder's foot.
