“He looks really good” – Mikel Arteta praises the Brazilian star
Mikel Arteta praised Gabriel Jesus and commented on Brazil's physical improvement after another injury-plagued season.
After arriving from Manchester City two years ago, Jesus looked completely unplayable, as his energy added another dimension to the Gunners, boosting their Champions League hopes to win the title.
However, the Brazilian striker suffered a serious injury to his knee which made him unable to play for several months, when he returned to the first team, Jesus found it difficult to regain his dignity as he had faced problems.
Although he was certainly disappointed that he missed the Copa America tournament in Brazil, it gave the Brazilian time to fully focus on his life.
The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet in his side's 2-1 pre-season win over Manchester United at the Sofi Stadium, heading home Ethan Nwaneri's superb cross.
Speaking after the match, Arteta praised Jesus' performance and commented on his improved physical fitness.
“She looks really good,” he said of the Mirror.
“He came again in a high state. And if you have that foundation, other things can be built but without that foundation you don't have a player. He has to be in that situation to get the best out of him.”
The Gunners face Liverpool in their next pre-season game next Thursday before taking on German champions Bayer Leverkusen.
