Elliott hails 'good' Slot style of play as Liverpool's new era motors on

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott says new manager Arne Slott's style is “good” compared to Jurgen Klopp's.

The Dutchman took over in Germany this summer and has plenty to do on Merseyside, with Klopp winning the Champions League and Premier League during his time with the club.

But Slot's new era began with a 1-0 win over Real Betis in pre-season and Elliott started the game so he saw first-hand the difference in how the new manager wants the team to play.

Speaking ahead of the game against Premier League rivals Arsenal, he said: “Very good, Dutch style, very good.

“The way of playing is very different. It's about having possessions now.

“The players are happy, we play some patterns, it's a good sound in the team and the boys enjoy using it in the games.

“It's a new beginning for everyone. I don't think it's emotions but happiness.

“I think we are [will learn it] very quickly to be honest. We saw in the previous game that there were some moments when the amazing ball was running free.

“It is pre-season and only the first few games and we must continue to trust what they are teaching us.

“We have to move on if things don't go well [immediately] because everything is new.”

Elliott played in the No.10 role alongside Dominik Szoboszlai due to the lack of strikers currently in Liverpool's squad.

Slot believes the two can carve out a place in the middle of a highly developed midfield and even suggested Elliott could break into the England squad under his leadership.

Elliott added:

“You can say all you want but it's up to me to work as hard as I can, play in training and in games, so it's up to me. I have no one to blame but myself.

“I wanted to come back early to catch a new way of playing and to meet the coaching staff and to play the game for the first time.

“It gives me a chance to get up and run in the pre-season. I feel like I did that. I need to keep building.”

Liverpool's next pre-season test will be against Arsenal, one of the two Premier League sides to finish last season.
