Golf Business News – Social media stars to take on East Lake in The Creator Classic

A group of the world's leading digital golf content creators are invited to participate in an exclusive tournament held at East Lake Golf Club prior to the TOUR Championship, the culmination of the PGA TOUR's FedExCup Playoffs.

The 'Creator Classic' will see 16 golf YouTubers, Instagrammers and TikTokers take part in a 9-hole challenge that will be broadcast on the PGA TOUR YouTube channel and several other platforms. The event will take place on Wednesday, August 28 at 4pm EST at East Lake before play begins the next day in the TOUR's season-ending event.

Among the confirmed participants so far are Tyler Toney from Dude Perfect, Bryan Bros, Fat Perez from Bob Does Sports, and Good Good creators Garrett Clark, Brad Dalke and Sean Walsh.

The tournament will consist of eight holes of gross stroke play followed by a playoff between the top four finishers. The Foursomes will be announced the day before the event.

The Creator Classic presented by Blackstone marks the first nine new views at East Lake, making the creators the first to officially take over the restored course. The club has undergone a complete restoration by Rees Jones following the 2023 TOUR Championship to bring the course back to its 'Golden Age' and back to parts of Donald Ross' original layout, as well as reflecting the changes to the modern game.

The Creator Classic will be broadcast live on the PGA TOUR YouTube channel, Peacock and ESPN+, as well as the PGA TOUR channel on PlutoTV, Roku, Samsung TV Plus, Tubi and XUMO, among other FAST platforms. Creator Classic will feature live ShotLink powered by CDW scoring/data, Trackman shot tracking and rich on-screen graphics.

Hosts will be on-site with talent covering the course action, while players and participants will capture and share their content throughout the tournament. For those looking to experience the excitement in person, the event will be open to anyone with a Wednesday ticket to the TOUR Championship.

Pro Shop Studios, the production company behind the Netflix hit 'Full Swing', will partner with PGA TOUR Entertainment to produce and distribute the production.

Chad Mumm, founder and President of Pro Shop Studios, said: “Golf is among the most popular and, for many young people, some of the biggest stars have appeared on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.

“The Creator Classic will bring these brightest new stars to golf's biggest stage, giving them the opportunity to compete in a real PGA TOUR environment in front of fans on site and around the world. The combination of these creators, with millions of loyal fans, and the PGA TOUR's unparalleled competitive spirit, production value and massive reach promises to deliver a historic golf event unlike any other.”

“The PGA TOUR is proud to partner with the Pro Shop and these popular golf content creators for an exciting new concept,” said Chris Wandell, PGA TOUR Senior Vice President of Media. “We look forward to bringing fans of these stars closer on social media to all the PGA TOUR has to offer, and what better place to kick off the tournament than at the final event of the FedExCup Playoffs.”

Blackstone's sponsorship of The Creator Classic is the latest in a partnership with the PGA TOUR, which began in May of this year when the outdoor grill supplier was named the Official Griddle of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions.

“We are thrilled to partner with the PGA TOUR and the Pro Shop on this exciting new golf event,” said Roger Dahle, Founder and CEO of Blackstone Products. “As a brand, we believe in the power of content to engage and immerse consumers with our products. The Creator Classic presented by Blackstone gives us a platform to showcase Blackstone products through a unique lens with the world's most notable golf content creators on stage one.”
