Pitbull Cruz Puts Highlights In Big Fights After Title Defense

Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz has named a list of boxers he wants to face after defending his WBA light welterweight title on Saturday, August 3, against Jose 'Rayo' Valenzuela at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles.

Fighters Cruz is interested in fighting:

  1. Gervonta 'Tank' Davis
  2. Teofimo Lopez
  3. Ryan Garcia
  4. Shakur Stevenson

Cruz Dismisses Shakur Stevenson as “Boring”

Pitbull Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs) says he views WBC lightweight champion Shakur as a boring person who will put the fans to sleep at the “Mozart” concert.

Stevenson has worn out his welcome among top fighters with consecutive poor performances against Artem Harutyunyan and Edwin De Los Santos. If Tank Davis is going to fight Shakur, he's going to need to do it as soon as possible because his value will be negligible.

After Top Rank invested in signing Shakur following his loss to Cuban talent Robeisy Ramirez in 2016, it emerged that fake gold and cannot pass the magnetic test of real 24K. They must have known from watching Shakur face off against Robeisy that he didn't have the talent to be a star.

In the finals of the Olympics, Stevenson fought to defend against Cuba and was beaten audibly. As a professional, Shakur continues to fight in the same way, which is unpleasant for the fans. It is unclear what Top Rank was thinking when they signed Shakur. If they thought he was going to change his fighting style, they were looking at him the wrong way.

Cruz is ahead of Ryan Garcia and Tank Davis

“Gervonta, Teofimo, Ryan, and lastly Shakur,” Isaac Cruz said on Fight Hub TV when asked who he would like to fight. “Ryan, because you're the fighter people want, and that's what I want to do. Maybe one day with Ryan.

“Last one with Stevenson because that's not a people's war, and everyone's going to sleep,” said 'Pitbull' Cruz of Shakur's boring fans. “Shakur will have a Mozart concert and everyone will sleep.”

It doesn't help that Pitbull Cruz is talking about fighting Shakur because if he gets the fight he's been campaigning for against Tank Davis, he'll lose that one, and he won't be much use as an opponent. He's going to be a Rolly Romero type.

Cruz is better off focusing on Ryan Garcia or Devin Haney. Those guys are going to captivate the audience right now. Teofimo is on the wane and hasn't been the same fighter since his 2020 win over Vasily Lomachenko.

That fight brought out the best in Teofimo, and he's holding it together now thanks to Top Rank's defensive performance. Teo is a dying star, headed for a supernova.

Pitbull's Immediate Focus

“He is a good fighter and very strong. We are prepared, and I think we will win,” said Pitbull about his fight on Saturday with Jose 'Rayo' Valenzuela.

Rayo has dramatically changed his fighting style since losing to Edwin De Los Santos and has adopted Lomachenko's moves. It will be interesting to see if Pitbull can find him to get his shot on Saturday night.

“He said he wanted to get me out, but why is he trying to be my friend?” Cruz said he did not want to shake Rayo's hand when they faced each other.

Cruz is still bent on Rayo, saying he wants to take him out, which is strange because all the fighters say so. If he is going to get upset every time his opponents predict that he will win, it will be bad blood every time he fights.

“Maybe in the future, but right now, I feel comfortable [140],” Cruz said when asked if he could move up to 147.
