Chelsea and Atletico verbally agreed a contract for Gallagher in excess of €40

Chelsea and Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal worth more than €40m for Conor Gallagher according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Blues have had a busy summer so far with seven new faces coming through the door at Stamford Bridge, and they confirmed the arrival of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal this week.

The club is also looking to offload a number of players, but things have been slow in that regard with Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson the only ones of note.

Chelsea and Atletico agree on terms for Gallagher fee

Gallagher's future has been up for discussion for months, with the midfielder in the final 12 months of his contract and Chelsea keen to sell him.

The 24-year-old has attracted rivals Tottenham and Atletico, with the Spanish club showing a strong interest in the midfielder.

It was reported earlier this week that Chelsea and Atletico were close to reaching a financial deal and Jacobs gave a major update.

He took to X.com and said:

“Know that Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have verbally agreed on a package in excess of €40m. Now it's up to Gallagher. Terms have not been agreed with the Chelsea midfielder yet.”

Chelsea had been asking £50m for the academy graduate, but it seems they are now prepared to pay a little less.

Gallagher, who has been with the Blues since the age of eight, established himself as a key player under Mauricio Pochettino and captained the side for most of last season in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

It is not certain whether Gallagher decides to join Atletico, but a decision on his future is likely to come soon, and Chelsea will need to be aware that they could be at risk of losing the midfielder for free next summer.
