Chelsea warn Conor Gallagher he faces 'training ground' if he does not join Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea have told Conor Gallagher he may not be allowed to return to the first team if he refuses to join Atletico Madrid, a report claims.
The Blues have accepted a bid for the midfielder from Atletico in recent days which is believed to be worth £33.8m, although he is yet to agree personal terms with the Spanish club.
Reports have also emerged that Gallagher has already rejected two offers for a new contract from Chelsea, although their latest offer remains on the table.
The Times reports Chelsea have now warned Gallagher he could face 'exile' from the first team and their Cobham training center if he does not sign for Atletico or accept the club's final offer for a new deal.
In addition to Atletico's offer, Chelsea expect Tottenham Hotspur to make a rival bid in the coming days. Spurs have a long-term interest in Gallagher and failed in an attempt to sign him last summer when he was first made available for transfer.
However, the report adds that Spurs are prioritizing a new player and are unlikely to make a move for Gallagher until the end of the window.
Gallagher's current contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2025, hence the club's “desire” to settle his future before the end of this month.
There have been private questions at Chelsea about Gallagher's suitability to play in Enzo Maresca's system, despite the midfielder's impressive performances under Mauricio Pochettino last season. Pochettino has been stressing Gallagher's importance to the club and the need for the club to commit him to a long-term contract during his one-season stay in west London.
Gallagher will return to training ahead of next season. He and Chelsea's other Euro 2024 finalists – Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella – will head to Cobham rather than join the rest of the first-team squad on their tour of the USA.
