LOS ANGELES – Trent Crawford is looking for more fame. Perhaps Saturday's bout with Israel Madrimov is a precursor to Bud's intended clash with Canelo Alvarez.
Currently, the three-division title holder and undisputed two-division champion (140 and 147) is eyeing the title in the fourth weight division, when he faces the WBA 154-pound Madrimov at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California.
The fight, along with the undercard bouts, will air on ESPN+ PPV, 6 pm ET/ 3 pm PT. Also DAZN at 4:30 pm ET/ 1:30 pm PT.
At the official weigh-in Friday morning, Madrimov came in at 154 on the nose, and Crawford came in at 153.4 pounds.
What is surprising is how this fight card is laid out.
The co-feature marks the return of former United heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs), who will be out of action for 23 months to face another big man seeking release in Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (26-1-1, 22 KOs).
Miller came in at 305.6 pounds, which was 27.4 pounds less than the 333 pounds he weighed in against Daniel Dubois when the Brooklynite lost for the first time last December. 305 pounds is the lightest Miller has weighed in six years. Ruiz weighs in at 274.4 kilograms, the heaviest he has weighed since his December 2019 rematch loss to Anthony Joshua.
Before Ruiz-Miller, two heavyweight fights where Jared Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs), The Ring's No. 7 contender, facing the best opponent of his career thus far in Martin Bakole (20-1, 15 KOs), the No. 10 competitors. Anderson came in at a career-high 252.4 pounds, while Bakole also came in at a career-high 284.4 pounds.
WBA junior welterweight Isaac Cruz (26-2-1, 18 KOs), making his first title defense, landed a right on the nose at 140. He will be fighting Jose Valenzuela (13-2, 9 KOs), who weighs 139.8 pounds.
Cuban native David Morrell (10-0, 9 KOs), The Ring's No. 2-rated super middleweight, he came in at 174.8 pounds and will try to extend his seven-fight winning streak against former champion Radivoje Kalajdzic (29-2, 21 KOs), who came in at 174.4 pounds.
Andy Cruz (3-0, 1 KO) has ambitions to be in the lightweight division of the world in 2025. The Cuban Olympic gold medalist faced veteran Antonio Moran (30-6-1, 21 KOs) in a 10-rounder.
