Bruno Guimaraes confirms summer transfer stance amid interest from Arsenal and Man City

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes appears to have ended the ongoing uncertainty over his future at the club with a statement confirming his commitment to the Magpies.

Guimaraes has impressed since joining Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 and has found himself heavily linked with a move away from St James' Park this summer, with both Arsenal and Manchester City interested in the Brazilian.

However, Guimaraes remains focused on Newcastle and was even rewarded for his first start as captain in Saturday's defeat by Yokohama F. Marinos, after which he took to social media to discuss the strength of his bond with the club.

“I am very happy to start another season with this team that has done a lot for me since my first day here,” he wrote. “I'm delighted to be back and more prepared than ever to have a great season and help Newcastle get as high as possible!

“Another dream come true! Being the captain of this team is everything I've always wanted but never imagined! We're in this together, and I'm sure I'll give myself more than ever with this badge.”

Newcastle faced huge financial pressure earlier this summer as they battled to avoid sanctions for breaching the Profit and Loss Regulations ahead of the June 30 deadline.

Talks were even held with Liverpool over winger Anthony Gordon, but the £68m sale of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh eased the pressure.

Now Newcastle are expected to offer Gordon a new contract as they look to tie up the core that helped fuel the Magpies' impressive form last season.

Striker Alexander Isak continues to be linked with a big-money move but Newcastle are under no pressure to part with the Swede who scored 21 goals in 30 games last season.
