Crystal Palace name Marc Guehi questioning the price following Newcastle's inquiry
Crystal Palace have made a £50m bid for Marc Guehi following an inquiry from Newcastle United, according to reports.
The 24-year-old defender's stock has soared following his role in helping England reach the Euro 2024 finals in the summer, building on the 2023/24 Premier League campaign where he shone as Palace finished 10th – their highest return since. 2014/15.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle have made contact with Crystal Palace, who have told the Magpies they want £50m up front for their star defender, with that amount to be increased by add-ons.
Newcastle are understood to be 'reluctant' to meet that asking price but are still working hard to find a deal to bring Guehi to St. James' Park before the transfer deadline.
Guehi is keen on a move to Newcastle
The Football Insider report also says that Guehi is determined to move to the North East.
It will no doubt provide more career opportunities as Newcastle make regular challenges for European places, finishing seventh last season but also facing Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage.
Eddie Howe needs reinforcements at centre-back, with Jamal Lascelles and Sven Botman both out until 2025 through injury.
Guehi – a product of Chelsea's youth system – would be a high-quality and ready-made option for the Newcastle boss.
