4 players who could play a big role for Liverpool in 2024/25
Liverpool begin a new chapter in the club's history, saying goodbye to the Jurgen Klopp era and starting anew under Arne Slot.
However, it looks like they will start the same way under Slot. They are the only Premier League club yet to sign a new player this summer.
But that doesn't mean Reds fans should lose hope. The Dutchman arrives at Anfield with his ideas and drive, a new way of doing things, and the club continues to work hard behind the scenes to rejuvenate the playing squad.
Here are four players we think could succeed under Slot in his first season on Merseyside.
Over the past few seasons, we've seen the reinvention of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Towards the end of Liverpool's disappointing 2022/23 season, Klopp ordered his star right-back to move into midfield instead of down the line. It soon paid dividends and continued on to the next campaign.
After Gareth Southgate pushed that self-proclaimed 'try' to the brink at Euro 2024 by starting Alexander-Arnold in midfield for England, there are questions about what kind of player he will be under Slot.
Alexander-Arnold is in the last year of his Liverpool contract and is wanted by Real Madrid. How Slot uses him and sells him in a new project could determine his future, and in some ways, eyes will be on the 25-year-old this season.
Can you believe Harvey Elliott has played 119 games for Liverpool? And he doesn't even turn 22 until next April?
There's a healthy amount of experience already under his belt, and Slot, who has been widely praised for his ability to significantly improve players, should relish the opportunity to get his hands on that top prospect.
If there is a quality player in Elliott, then we will start to see him blossom on a consistent basis this year. He has already performed well in pre-season and there is a lot of talk about him ahead of the Premier League campaign.
An England call-up won't be far off, and Slot could be the manager to help him reach that goal.
Perhaps the most surprising star of Klopp's final season was Jarell Quansah, who returned to Liverpool for the 2023/24 season after a successful loan spell at League One side Bristol Rovers. At the end of the campaign, he had been called to England.
It takes a bit of courage and aggression to be able to look home in Klopp's top line, but Quansah managed to look it with ease.
The slot is unlikely to release such an open back system, which should allow the world to see the 21-year-old without worrying about 60 yards of space behind him. You would think that would be good.
When Slot's arrival was confirmed, several reports said that one of his top money was to make a success out of Darwin Nunez.
At Feyenoord, Slot used his unorthodox coaching style to mold Santiago Gimenez into one of the Eredivisie's top strikers, and it seems the Reds have similar hopes for their Uruguayan striker.
We all know that Nunez is an underdog, but unless he improves his finishing and works on his composure, he will never be at the top of the world class. Don't put it above him to make such a jump, and be sure to sing for the fun that will happen either way.
