Liverpool rejected a £15m transfer offer from Southampton

Liverpool rejected a £15 million bid from Southampton for Fabio Carvalho less than 24 hours after the striker scored his second goal of their US tour.

Carvalho scored the first goal of the game after 10 minutes against Manchester United in South Carolina, continuing his promising form after netting in Arsenal's 2-1 win in Philadelphia three days ago.

Promoted Saints' bid falls “far short” of the amount Liverpool would like Carvalho to leave permanently, according to BBC Sport, who said new Reds manager Arne Slot is considering using the Portuguese in a 4-2-3-1 after impressing. alongside defender Sepp van den Berg during pre-season.

Liverpool transfer news: Will Carvalho stay?

Speaking this week, Carvalho told Liverpool's website that Slott will rely more on midfield play than his predecessor Jurgen Klopp, naming team-mates Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai among the players the new manager will allow to use.

“It's about playing with them and finding me, Mo [Salah] and top players, like him [Diogo Jota], and in football,” explained Carvalho. “Being able to play in the third is what we want to do and what the manager wants to be our identity.”

“You want me to do things to protect myself first. You know what qualities I have. It's good to have someone who's always looking out for me, making sure I'm there – and that's what I got from the gaffer.”
