Olivier Giroud backs Atletico Madrid star to join him in MLS – “He was a bit jealous”
Olivier Giroud says Antoine Griezmann was 'a bit jealous' when he heard about his move to MLS club LAFC, backing his former France team-mate to join him in the United States.
Giroud touched down in Los Angeles earlier this week as he prepares for life in Los Angeles and could make his debut for the Black and Gold in the League Cup play-offs.
The 37-year-old striker joins team-mate Hugo Lloris at the BMO Stadium and, speaking at his introductory press conference, Giroud suggested that LAFC could soon become France's World Cup winners.
“When he saw the news that I had signed for LAFC, he was jealous,” Giroud said of Atletico Madrid striker Griezmann (via mlssoccer.com).
“I told him, 'Don't worry, I hope we'll meet soon.' I don't know where we are with the team, but I sent him as soon as I saw that he was linked with the team and he told me 'Let's see.' I know you love the US. Basketball, baseball, football. One day you will come here.”
Twellman: Griezmann and LAFC are a natural marriage
Former MLS USA champion Taylor Twellman has long championed Griezmann's move to the United States.
In fact, Twellman even called LAFC and Griezmann – the 135-cap France international – a 'natural marriage'.
“You've heard it here since February. I said Griezmann and LAFC are a natural marriage waiting to happen,” Twellman said on his Twellman's Takes YouTube series.
“Hugo Lloris, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann. All World Cup winners. All good friends. And they all want their careers to end on Sunset Boulevard. “
