Spurs could sign 'one of the best CFs in the world'

Tottenham are looking for a striker

Fabrizio Romano revealed a few days ago that one of the options Spurs are considering this summer is Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Solanke was in good form last season but he is not the only option on their shortlist. One happened to be Napoli's Victor Osimhen.

Reports emerged early last week that Spurs could make a shock move for the player and that idea has been shared by former Everton boss Keith Wyness, who spoke to Football Insider.

Wyness, who now owns a consultancy and advises top clubs, said: “I wouldn't be surprised if Spurs are watching and keeping abreast of Osimhen's situation at Napoli. He is one to watch.”

How do you compare Osimhen and Solanke

In terms of the nature of goals then there is only one winner here; Osimhen.

The Nigerian powerhouse has been making waves in recent seasons and according to Joao Cancelo, has proven himself to be “one of the best strikers in the world.”

Why? Well, his record in front of goal speaks for itself. An injury-hit 2023/24 season meant he scored just 17 goals, a drop from his 2022/23 tally as Napoli won the Scudetto. That year, Osimhen was one of the top scorers in Europe, finding the net 31 times in 39 games.

So, how does that compare to Solanke? However, the former Chelsea man scored 19 goals last season, ensuring he finishes the campaign as the Premier League's fourth top scorer but his record beyond that, at the top level, is not much to write home about.

In the last four seasons, Osimhen has scored only three more goals than Solanke. However, those first two seasons for the Cherries player were in the second tier of English football.

Concerns may lie in Solanke's figures for 2022/23. It's been a very poor year for the striker and although he has improved significantly in 2023/24, Tottenham would like to bring in someone with a proven pedigree, not based on one season.

We can't just test pure goals, though. Where else does Bournemouth's talisman Osimhen do better?

Well, it is Solanke who comes out on top in a wide range of metrics, especially aerial duels and continuous passing. However, it is the Nigerian international who holds the reins of management and assists.

So, while Osimhen doesn't have the rounded game that Solanke has, Spurs need goals and after Kane's exit, they need a big name. The Napoli frontman should be a priority for them if they can negotiate a reasonable price.
