5 young players Barcelona should look at if they miss out on Nico Williams

Barcelona may be dreaming of signing Nico Williams, but as the day goes by it becomes clear that they are unlikely to get their man.

Williams' bond with the Athletic Club remains strong and it's hard to blame him for staying with his boyhood club if that was his decision in the end.

Throughout the summer, Barca president Joan Laporta has insisted the club have the funds to sign Williams for his €60 million release clause. Dani Olmo is likely to cost Barcelona the same amount if a deal is done with RB Leipzig and it is not yet known if that will come out of Williams' budget.

But let's say that's not the case and La Blaugrana have €60 million to throw in a winger to work alongside youth sensation Lamine Yamal. Who should they understand?

We have five suggestions for them…

Jadon Sancho

Although Erik ten Hag has welcomed Jadon Sancho back from the cold, Manchester United could still sell the winger before the transfer window closes.

For one reason or another, it didn't work out for Sancho in his native England, and although it took him a while to settle into the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, his Champions League form proved he's still the best midfielder on the continent.

Sancho has already been temporarily linked with Barcelona this window, but not much since Williams became their top target.

Kingsley ComanKingsley Coman

Bayern Munich are looking to the future – Michael Olise has joined from Crystal Palace, and talks continue over Rennes' Desire Doue.

For someone as senior as Kingsley Coman, you must be wondering what will happen next at the club. Will he be trusted to play under new coach Vincent Kompany? Will you be given another chance before the stars of tomorrow?

90 min he revealed earlier this summer that Bayern would be open to selling Coman for €50 million and Barcelona were among the teams monitoring his situation. If Williams falls through, it's hard to imagine they won't at least explore this move again.

If Barcelona are looking for a small alternative to Coman, then it is worth pursuing 19-year-old striker Mathys Tel.

There is a good platform for Barca to put forward, too. The ol' 'Barca DNA' cropping up in the Catalan press, questioning his importance in the Bayern project with fellow Frenchmen Olise and Doue running on the flanks.

Bayern tried to end speculation over Tel's future by signing him to a new contract in March. But as we have learned in football, that doesn't matter if the player is willing to move.

Federico ChiesaFederico Chiesa

Classic Barcelona, this one.

Juventus have made it clear that Federico Chiesa could leave this summer, and reports in Italy say they would be willing to accept bids as low as €20 million.

Admittedly, the 26-year-old's track record is failing him, and sticking him to Barcelona's luck-cursed injury machine won't make him successful. But if La Blaugrana are really desperate, they deserve to be beaten for that amount, don't they?

Pedro NetoPedro Neto

The one thing the other four players on this list have in common is that they move on the right, so Pedro Neto is here a bit of a palate cleanser.

Capable of playing anywhere across the front line and boasting international experience, Neto will suit Barcelona's legendary style and bring the breadth they crave.

Neto recently said he was happy at Wolves, but Barcelona's knock is different from the Old Gold.
