4 things we learned from Liverpool's pre-season tour of the USA

Liverpool enjoyed a successful pre-season tour of the United States, winning all three of their games across the Atlantic.

The Reds managed to marry the minutes in the tank with a series of good games and results, and although in the scheme of their good season to say the least, it created a sense of hope before the new campaign – a win against the likes. of Arsenal and Manchester United is always sweet no matter what the situation.

Here are our key takeaways from Liverpool's tour of the USA.

Arne Slot

Whoever replaces Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer has a big job on their hands. How do you replace the person who delivered everything Liverpool?

Well, Arne Slot has started trying to separate himself from Germany through his style of play so far. The Reds are no longer a direct attack in the first half, moving away from the rock-and-roll football that defined the last decade.

Instead, Liverpool try to dominate the ball and build at the back. “Kill them with passes,” was the line Slot himself came up with.

The new Liverpool. Get used to it.

Liverpool fans have been eagerly awaiting Harvey Elliott's true arrival as a Premier League star for several years now, and if this pre-season is anything to go by, he is ready to take that mantle.

The 21-year-old has been perhaps the biggest winner on the summer tour, excelling in a variety of roles and showing his range of talents and adaptability to new boss Slot.

Whatever Liverpool's schedule this season, it's hard to imagine that Elliott won't play a key role.

After two loan spells away from Liverpool in the 2023/24 season, Fabio Carvalho's Anfield career appeared to be on the line.

Although there was transfer interest in the former Fulham star, he went on tour and took the opportunity with both hands, scoring goals in wins over Arsenal and United.

Southampton have had £15m for Carvalho rejected in recent days and could yet come back with another bid. At worst, he's increased his transfer value, and may have worked his way into Slot's long-term thinking.

So far, Slot has gotten a hit from a core group of players, but some of his biggest stars are yet to play a minute under his management.

Team captain Virgil van Dijk, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold and Euro 2024 star Cody Gakpo have resumed training after their summer matches and are now available for selection. And Liverpool haven't spent a penny in this transfer window.

They are cooking up something delicious at Anfield.
