Sandy Ryan will defend her world title against Mikaela Mayer

SANDY RYAN will put her WBO welterweight title on the line when she faces Mikaela Mayer on September 27 at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.

Taking the first step in the rebuilding process after a close loss to Natasha Jonas in England, Mayer hopes that bringing the UK boxer over the pond will help her.

“I loved fighting in the UK for the last two years, but I miss fighting in America,” said the opponent. “I am ready to take Sandy Ryan's WBO belt. AND NEW!”

Unafraid to retaliate, 30-year-old Ryan is ready to let his punches do the talking and silence his powerful opponent.

“Mayer has a lot of bad things to say about me and this fight, and I'm sure he will continue to do that, but I'm an athlete and I'm at a high level. I'm going to let my boxing do the talking, and I'm going to shine in that ring on September 27. Bring it on!”

While Top Rank's main event is titled “Queens of Gotham City,” other New York favorites are also set to participate, including a return to the stomping grounds of Bruce Carrington.

'Shu Shu' is closing in on the title and will have his hands full with Ugandan upset Sulaiman Segawa, who was last seen ruining the plans of world title contender Ruben Villa.

Xander Zayas last fought in June at this same MSG location. At that time, he revealed Patrick Teixeira. Now, the Puerto Rican is seeking win number 19 (12 KOs) over two-time Mexican Damian Sosa.
