West Ham are interested in the former Borussia Dortmund player

West Ham have been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League this summer.

The reshuffle, overseen by director Tim Steidten, has seen the Hammers sign six players from the first team. Max Kilman, Crysencio Summerville, Niclas Fullkrug, Luis Guilherme, Guido Rodriguez and Wes Foderingham have all joined on permanent deals.

However, despite having already spent more than £100 million, the London club, according to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany, are considering 'bringing in one more experienced defender' and have identified former Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels as a possible target.

West Ham want Mats Hummels

The German defender is a free agent after failing to renew his contract at Dortmund last season. The 35-year-old is one of the most experienced players in Europe – with over 620 appearances.

Likely to be a Premier League success, West Ham must now convince the six-time Bundesliga winner to ditch any retirement plans he may have and join the Hammers in what could be a short-term deal. If Julen Lopetegui can persuade the defender to continue playing, he will be in a good position to sign the 35-year-old after Bologna withdrew their interest.

Hummels has enjoyed a successful career lifting 17 major trophies, including winning the 2014 World Cup with Germany.
