Chelsea will face their Musiala

It's a scary thought to think where Chelsea would have finished the 2023/24 Premier League campaign had Cole Palmer not produced the magic he did in front of goal last season.

After joining from Manchester City for £40m, it was unclear how much of an impact he would have on the first team at Stamford Bridge during his first campaign in West London.

However, it soon became clear just how valuable he is under former manager Mauricio Pochettino, as he registered 22 goals and 11 assists in his 34 games – helping the Blues to a European place finish.

He finished the campaign as the club's second-highest goalscorer behind Erling Haaland, but managed the joint-highest goals and assists of any player, with his £40m fee looking like an absolute bargain over 12 months.

Palmer could continue to bolster his tally in 2024/25 and could be helped by one person who could see him reunite with one of his former teammates.

Chelsea are interested in attacking talent this summer

According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea will try to sign Manchester City striker Oscar Bobb before the end of the transfer window.

Oscar Bobb of Manchester City

The 21-year-old Norwegian striker thrived for Pep Guardiola's side last season, making 26 appearances in all competitions – scoring in the Premier League and Champions League.

Phillips' report says the Blues could lure Bobb to Stamford Bridge after seeing Palmer's impact in 2023/24, but no official bid has been made for the youngster.

Like Palmer, Bobb is a product of City's excellent academy but has found himself in a similar position of finding opportunities on the substitutes' bench.

Needing consistent game time to reach the levels he is capable of, the Norwegian striker was able to hit the high levels of one player the Blues allowed him to pass through his grasp.

Why Bobb might be like Musiala at Chelsea

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has established himself as one of the best young talents in world football after his Euro 2024 debut, which saw Germany score three points in his five games at the tournament.

However, he would not play for Chelsea's Blues, but he will remain one of the many talents to have crossed the net, after leaving the Blues to join the Bundesliga outfit at the age of 16.

The 21-year-old is now valued at £111m by Transfermarkt – an indication of how much he has improved in such a short space of time – but Enzo Maresca's side now have the chance to sign a midfielder like Bob from City.

The two are very similar players according to FBref and looking at their stats at 90 in 2023/24, the comparison is understandable with Chelsea likely to sign another very promising youngster.

He may have played ten fewer league games last season, but the City youngster registered more passing accuracy and completed 90 consecutive passes – which could help Palmer as he looks to build on his impressive opening season at Stamford Bridge.

Bobb, who was once called “electric” by boss Guardiola, was more dangerous in the final third than the German, averaging a higher rate of each goal, while finishing some of the plays he attempted.

While it is not yet known if the deal can be completed or how much it would set the Blues back, the youngster would be a fantastic addition with the potential to develop into a star in west London.

The deal that saw Palmer move to the club last summer could be used as an incentive for Maresca to repeat a similar transfer this summer, with the Blues benefiting from the youngster's talents now and in the future.
