Romano's interesting update on the right back search

This summer, unlike 12 months ago, West Ham have been one of the biggest players in the transfer market.

The technical director, Tim Steidten, has made some notable signings, and it seems that the Hammers are not done with changing their first team before the window closes at the end of the month.

It's certainly an exciting time to be an Irons fan, with Julen Lopetegui's rebuild being the biggest change the club has seen in years.

West Ham's search for a right back is taking an unexpected turn

Another area where it is understood that the Hammers still want to improve is at right back.

While it is unlikely that the reliable Vladimir Coufal will end up on the bench, if not leave the club entirely, if Steidten achieves his reported goal, there is an argument that the club would have gained another level in a key position.

Fabrizio Romano has a surprise update for West Ham fans, however, and one they may not have expected.

Tim Steidten has been working wonders for West Ham in the transfer market

“Discussions with Aaron Wan-Bissaka are ongoing at West Ham and he remains the frontrunner for his right-back position, although it is a difficult task to cross the line,” he told CaughtOffside in his exclusive Daily Briefing.

“Despite the rumours, I am not aware of Arnau Martinez's negotiations, and Kieran Trippier will only be selected if the Wan Bissaka deal does not go through.

“There is no move close to Vladimir Coufal from what I have heard.”

Given how well Steidten has managed the transfer window so far, West Ham fans should hope the German's instincts prove to be right this time around.

Whether it's Wan-Bissaka, Martinez or Trippier, the addition will be another strong one and will give the Hammers one of the strongest squads they've had in years.
