Vergil Ortiz Jr. and interim WBC junior middleweight champion Serhii Bohachuk weighed in at 153.8 lbs for their twelve-round bout on Saturday, August 10, at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas.

Bohachuk (24-1, 23 KOs) made the first defense of his interim WBC 154-lb title, which he captured on March 30, with a twelve-round unanimous decision victory over Brian Mendoza.

This is a tough fight to predict because both fighters are straight sluggers who focus on grappling and don't think too much about defense when they let their hands go. Bohachuk has similar power to Ortiz but has less hand speed.

If Vergil loses this fight, it will be a huge setback in his career because it took him many years to get to this point, and it will be difficult for him to come back soon from the loss.

Saturday's Bohachuk vs. Ortiz Jr. will air live on DAZN at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says that if Ortiz Jr. wins, he wants to match him with the winner of the fight between IBF 154-lb champion Bakhram Murtazaliev and Tim Tszyu.

He knows that Ortiz Jr.'s chances are getting a shot against WBC champion and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora is slim as he is expected to fight Errol Spence next and possibly Terence Crawford after that.

Vergil Jr, 26, will make his third appearance in 2024. This is the busiest he's had in his six-year career since 2018, and hopefully he can stay healthy and continue to fight without going on the shelf for too long.

The separation of these two accomplished fighters will not affect who wins on Saturday night because it is a different story when the lights are on without the headgear and heavy gloves.

“There is so much energy. Bohachuk, the thing about him is that when he lost to Brandon Adams, he was a special fighter. I remember him from 'The Contender.' He won 'The Contender' and couldn't stand it [Jermall] Charles. Charlo couldn't stop him, and he kept stopping everyone. So, he knows how to fight, he is strong, and he has consistency.

“So, that's why I have to take Bohachuk out a little to win this fight,” said Mora.

It is unclear why there was no rematch between Bohachuk and Adams. That would have made sense for Bohachuk to do because it's not like Adams was busy with his job. He has fought once since then, beating an unknown fighter.
