10 reasons why the cycle to setup is so important

Every great golfer is familiar with the approach before taking the shot. Sure, this helps them prepare mentally, but it also allows their body to feel where certain parts need to be in order to execute their game plan.
If you can develop a consistent set-up process – making sure all parts are the same before each swing – you'll have more success during the round. So how can you develop the best setup routine for your game? I offer some tips below.
1. Fixed position and space
Having a setup routine will allow you to have a consistent stance regardless of the club you're using – which directly affects your ability to hit the center of the clubface. Ideally, you should have the same balance on all clubs, avoiding any difference between your shortest to longest clubs.
2. Set up a club and set yourself up
In most cases, each golf club has a different length, so the bad news is that you are a different distance from each golf ball. But there is something good news! If you assume you are in the same position with each club – allowing your arms to hang under your shoulders and the space between your hands and thighs – you will have the same consistency regardless of your club selection.
To help you make the setup easier, I suggest you set the club behind the ball first, then position yourself. This is part of the reason why having the right club for your body is so important – it's why I suggest using TrueSpec to my students.
3. Clubhead and clubface first
By setting your clubhead behind the ball first, you allow yourself the opportunity to check your aim. Ideally, you'll have already done some practice throws, so you can give your target one last look before going into action mode and taking your shot.
So always check that the leading edge depends on where you want the ball to start – which is a good starting point for building the rest of your setup.
4. Personalize your hosting
Positioning your hands correctly in the grip is a big part of any good practice set. That's because your grip is a big factor in how you control the clubface at impact.
Have you noticed that the best golfers are more deliberate about putting each hand on the club grip? This shows value and importance.
5. Bend at the hips
Once you put your club down behind the golf ball, make sure you bend from the waist to get into the correct golf swing – which, as mentioned, should allow your arms to hang below your shoulders for a natural swing. while spinning.
Another key is your footwork. The feet have many functions in the golf swing, including spacing, ball positioning, and body alignment — so don't forget about this in your setup.
6. Step to divide the space
By stepping on your feet, you will get the right distance from your hands to your thighs, which will allow your arms to really hang. This space must be identified and repeated for each shot.
If you're too far from the ball, your arms will appear diagonal – which tends to produce smaller, higher, or toe shots. If you are too close together, it tends to affect the posture and there can be a slight sag – which can result in fat burning or impaction on the heel.
7. Step into the ball position, too
Your footwork is also important to find the right position for the ball, relative to forward or backward. By stepping directly on the sides, it will allow you to make adjustments to the ball position without affecting the clubface's aim or body alignment.
8. Alignment step
It is very important to use your feet to allow you to properly direct your body. To get an accurate shot, the lines of your body must line up with your target line.
9. Step of area width
Another way your feet will help with consistency is to find the right width for your stance.
Ideally, the width of your stance will be hip width when the ball is on the ground, and slightly wider with the ball on the tee and using the driver. Also, when your stance is wider with the driver, remember to put the ball forward and add the necessary shoulder tilt – where the leading shoulder is high and the trailing shoulder is low, allowing for maximum contact directly behind the ball. .
10. Last feet is almost the rule
Most golfers customize their setups to what works best for them, so as you do so, a good rule of thumb is to put your hands on the club and then prepare your feet. The reason? Because your feet help with other responsibilities such as spacing, ball positioning, alignment, and area width.
