Bakhodir Jalolov wins Olympic super-heavyweight gold

BAKHODIR Jalolov has won a double Olympic gold medal after defeating Ayoub Ghadfa for the super-heavyweight gold. The big Uzbek worked hard to stop the young man but resisted the temptation to plant his feet and score a KO, instead opting to back off and protect history. The jury's decision was unanimous.

Currently 14-0 as a champion, with 14 wins, Jalolov has comfortably transitioned back to the amateur circuit for another crack at Olympic glory. Jalolov also won gold at the Tokyo Games, defeating Frazer Clarke and Richard Torrez en route to victory.

He got off to the front foot here, looking to dominate Ghadfa behind his portside jab and left hand. Ghadfa had his moments of success, but a two-count stoppage at the end of the first game made it an uphill battle for the Spaniard.

Ghadfa's left jab and left hook were working in the second round, but Jalolov's lefts were also landing. The Spanish fighter needed a big punch to turn him around. It wasn't like Jalolov closed the story.

Li Qian wins Olympic gold at middleweight

China's Li Qian won Olympic gold in the middleweight division, defeating Panama's Atheyna Bylon by split decision. Qian shouted after the competition which saw the winner choose the right shots at the right time.

Winning any kind of medal would have been a record-breaking achievement for the Panamanian puncher. Qian's sharp right hand and more experience earned him a clean first round.

The referee was dealing with Bylon's offense in the second half as he used some moves to try to get into the fight. He held the round, but his southpaw skills waned as Qian picked up better shots.

The Chinese woman won 4-1 on aggregate as Beylon won the third of all five cards as she made a big effort to try and convert.

Abdumalik Khalokov wins Olympic featherweight gold

Abdumalik Khalokov of UZBEKISTAN won gold in the featherweight final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Khalokov won by unanimous decision over underdog Munarbek Seitbek Uulu of Kyrgyzstan.

After many twists and turns, Khalokov was ahead on all five scorecards after the first round. Seitbek Uulu tried to throw a left jab in that round and again in the second as the Kyrgyz fighter tried to put pressure on the energetic dancer.

The fight was heated at times and the referee had to reprimand both men for holding and grappling. Quality Khalokov, 24, started to show his chops in the third round when Seitbek Uulu landed a southpaw turn attempt. The Uzbek won UD's gold medal and his country's fourth boxing medal at the Games.

Lin Yu-ting wins Olympic gold at featherweight

Lin Yu-ting won the featherweight gold medal, defeating Poland's Julia Szeremeta by unanimous decision.

It was a real clash of styles. Szeremeta's hands are down, a confident swagger against Lin's tall, straight, green stance. Lin was a woman with more experience. Similar to Imane Khelif, who won gold last night, Lin Yu-ting had to face many problems.

After a strong 5-0 opening round, Lin opened the second round behind his left fence post. Szeremeta was frantically searching for a big shot to equalize, but his chin was usually in position to capture Lin's scything inside. Those got the Chinese Taipei striker a second chance to sweep.

Szeremeta needed to be stopped as Lin landed a southpaw in the third, bleeding Szeremeta's nose. Lin floated home to take the gold with a perfect shutout. Szeremeta's silver marks Poland's first ever female boxing medal.
