Blazers, Wizards not interested in D'Angelo Russell

Finally, the last thing that affected each set of discussions the Lakers had was D'Angelo Russell's reputation around the league. Portland is not interested in Russell, according to sources close to the situation. League sources also say Washington is wary of pairing Russell with fellow star tight end Jordan Poole. Toronto and Brooklyn were very open to acquiring the nine-year veteran, but more on his expiring contract than he would do on the court.

Sources say that in the days leading up to Russell's decision to opt out of his contract this season, Los Angeles began quietly lobbying the league for deals. When he finally exercised his player option, Pelinka really worked to find him a new home, to no avail. Bottom line: LA needs Russell more than teams around the league. He is their first guardian. He played well last regular season, and if he is moved, his production will need to change. -via Lakers Daily / August 10, 2024

D'Angelo Russell: I thought you were going to Miami. Devin Booker: That's where I was hoping… Miami was my best workout, and then I remember, I think Pat Riley came in and did an interview and he's like 'we need a player like Klay Thompson, we need to increase the shooting.' And I just shot a 40 in college… it's like 'oh yeah', I'm looking at places right down the field… The Draft is crazy, your life changes like that, you can't really control it. -via YouTube / August 4, 2024
