The Titleist GT2 and GT3 fairway metals are set to build upon the engineering advances that launched the GT line of fairways to positive feedback from professionals.
As you would expect from Titleist they deliver exceptional performance from product development and design.
The new GT fairways offer lightning fast speeds, high flight, good spin and long carry in two unique models.
The line promises perfect performance both from the tee and to the green.
“A line of high-performance irons needs to stand out in many different ways,” said Stephanie Luttrell, Director, Titleist Metalwood Product Development.
“For most golfers, fairway irons need to be more flexible. They need to be fast and far, and they need to fly high and catch vegetables. Playfulness and forgiveness are very important. The changes we made to the GT fairways help deliver on all of these performance features.”
The GT2 and GT3 fairway metals both feature new construction, starting with their Seamless Thermoform crown, made from Titleist's Proprietary Matrix Polymer.
The acoustic qualities of the matrix matrix produce Titleist's trademark sound and feel, while the crown preserves the iconic Titleist look.
Like the GT driver line, the crown is very light on the GT2 and GT3 fairways allowing the redistribution of optional weight, resulting in an improved center of gravity.
“We had big CG goals for both of these models, and the only way we were going to get the CG where we wanted it was with a multi-objective crown,” says Bennett. “That optional weight has allowed us to significantly increase the launch in both models, significantly lower in GT2 and stay lower in GT3.”
The result is a higher flight with the same or lower spin and faster speed in both models. The new L-Cup face improves performance on low-impact shots, and the refined shaping on each model gives players two different options to choose from.
“The first step in our process when we turn to designing the next generation of a product line is tour feedback,” said Tom Bennett, Titleist Clubs Chief Product Manager.
“We get a lot of ideas from JJ [Van Wezenbeeck, Titleist’s Senior Director of Club Promotions] from his work with Tour players. With the GT fairways, our main direction was to increase the flight, but not the rotation. “
GT fairway irons are specially designed to improve performance on low fairways. The new insert wraps around the bottom of the club to conserve ball speed, eliminate excessive spin and improve sound and feel.
“For the L-Cup Face, we used Forged 465 Stainless Steel, which is one of the strongest steels out there,” said Bennett. “The stiffness of the face material allows us to be really thin with our L-Cup Face, which keeps ball speed high at low impacts. It also feels better: Tour players say their smaller shots feel less sharp. “
