Spurs could get a bigger talent than Maddison

It's been a quiet transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur, with Archie Gray the only major addition, costing Ange Postecoglou's side around £30m for Leeds United.

However, in the past 24 hours, that has all changed, with club striker Dominic Solanke in a club-record £65m deal from Bournemouth after his impressive goal-scoring campaign in 2023/24.

The England man scored 19 goals in his 38 Premier League appearances for Andoni Iraola's side, helping them to a 12th-place finish, a remarkable achievement for a club like Bournemouth.

While the 26-year-old may seem like a hefty sum, he will provide support at the end of the pitch that the Lilywhites have been lacking since the departure of Harry Kane last summer.

However, without a big-money transfer, Postecoglou's side may not be done there, with his side possibly still in the market to sign one more young talent.

Tottenham could sign the £47m ace this summer

During the off-season, Spurs have been linked with a number of attacking talents to try and boost their bid to secure Champions League football in the 2024/25 campaign.

One player rumored to be moving to North London is French midfielder Desire Doue, the youngster is expected to leave Ligue 1 side Rennes this summer.

However, they are not alone in the hunt for the 19-year-old player, with Bayern Munich and PSG also fighting to acquire the services of the talent who played for his country in the Olympic Games.

Like Solanke, he is expected to command a hefty fee, especially considering his talent and potential, with Rennes expecting around £47m to part with Doue.

Although it would be risky to spend such a large amount of money on another young talent, he has already shown the talent he has, which is probably more impactful than one of Spurs' current aces.

Why Doue would be a bigger talent than Maddison

After joining Leicester City last summer, midfielder James Maddison produced a strong debut campaign in North London, registering 13 goals in the Premier League.

However, it is not too far to say that there were high expectations for the Englishman who played once in his first season at this club, with the hope that he can extend his first season in 2024/25.

He could see himself lose his starting role if Spurs terminate Doue's deal, with the Frenchman producing far better statistics than the Englishman in Ligue 1 despite his young age.

Although he registered slightly fewer combined goals and assists in 2023/24, Doue's quality is evident with the midfielder excelling with the ball at his feet.

He was able to nearly double the number of consecutive games to 90 last season, while completing twice as many as Maddison.

The “elite” Doue, as described by commentator Ben Mattinson, also managed to score a better goal on average than the current Spurs man despite scoring fewer goals, proving that he is more accurate with his efforts than England.

Chelsea transfer target Desire Doue

While it may be another big buck to throw in a player after Solanke's marquee deal, it would undoubtedly be a worthwhile investment, given Doue's ability to thrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He will be able to form a lethal partnership with the forward, while providing an upgrade to the options available to Postecoglou – increasing his chances of getting Champions League football.
