Angelo Leo takes out Luis Lopez in spectacular fashion

The finale featured Mike McCallum's stunning one-punch knockout victory over Donald Curry back in 1987. During a close, high-scoring battle, McCallum fired a hook that seemed to go outside the famous Curry. in front of the HBO cameras. This time it was Angelo Leo who fired a left hook, and it was Luis Lopez who ended up on his back with the referee counting on him while ESPN cameras captured it all. It was a good knockout, which could have given Leo a win of the year award, but more importantly it won the now 24-2 Leo the IBF world featherweight title.
Lopez, who fought well until the last period, now owns a record of 30-2. Without a doubt, however, the night belonged to the new champion. “We've been practicing for four or five months,” said Leo, talking about the tenth round left that shook the boxing world after the fight. “I want to fight all the champions.” What made the fight interesting for Leo was that he went down in front of the Albuquerque home crowd. “Thank you to all my fans,” said Leo. “I love you.” With victories like Saturday's, Leo gave Albuquerque good reason to love him.
