Spurs are set to make a “mind-boggling” £25m bid for the star
Tottenham Hotspur wrapped up their pre-season with a 3-2 defeat to Harry Kane and Bayern Munich in their final game before the Premier League campaign on Saturday.
Dejan Kulusevski scored twice, including a goal in the first minute of the match, but strikes from Thomas Muller, Dayot Upamecano, and Serge Gnabry secured a friendly victory for the Bavarian outfit.
Ange Postecoglou will now focus entirely on the opening game against newly promoted Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
The Lilywhites missed out on Champions League football this season, finishing below Aston Villa in the table, and a top-four finish could appear to be a target for Australian managers this season.
Spurs have entered the market in an attempt to strengthen their squad, with Lucas Bergvall, in a deal agreed earlier this year, Archie Gray, and Dominic Solanke all joining this summer.
The club recently signed Solanke on a permanent deal from Bournemouth, reportedly worth £65m, to improve the club's attack.
Spurs are in the market for a new midfielder
In addition to this addition to the squad, Tottenham are reportedly in the market to add another striker to the squad to compete with Solanke.
According to Football Insider, Spurs are eyeing a possible signing for Ligue 1 Lille side Jonathan David before the end of the window.
The report claims Postecoglou is planning a potential move for the Canadian as uncertainty continues over Richarlison's future at the club.
It adds that the Brazil international “could leave” before the deadline but does not say if there are any teams currently chasing his services, although it does say that there are clubs in the Saudi Pro League monitoring his situation.
Football Insider also reveals that a number of Premier League teams are eyeing David this summer, which means the Lilywhites may face serious competition for his signature.
The report says that the Canadian striker is in the last 12 months of his contract with the French club and that has forced them to reduce his price to £25m, which is why he has emerged as wanted by Spurs and others. sides in the English top flight.
If Tottenham can win the race to secure their services before the end of the summer then Postecoglou could have two options for excellent strikers, himself and Solanke.
What Dominic Solanke can bring to Tottenham
The £65m transfer fee will bring a level of expectation to the England striker, who has proven himself to be a prolific goalscorer at Premier League level.
Solanke has played in England for most of his career, was loaned to Vitesse in his younger days, and does not need to adapt to the league or country, as a signed player – like David – from abroad would have to do.
This means that Postecoglou and the fans may feel that he should hit the ground running this season, given his experience in the league and his high price tag.
The former England international is coming off the back of his best Premier League season with the Cherries, having not conceded more than six goals in the top flight before the 2023/24 campaign.
Solanke scored 19 goals in 38 games last term and no Spurs player has managed to surpass Heung-min Son's tally of 17 in the league.
This suggests that the £65m signing from Bournemouth could come in to provide a much-needed boost to Postecoglou's final third, if he can continue his impressive form in a Tottenham shirt.

As you can see from the table above, Solanke has been putting himself in good scoring positions, as evidenced by his 19.63 Expected Goals.
He's underperformed given the amount of opportunities he's received but that shouldn't be a big deal, given how little he's done poorly, if he can continue to get into positions for those opportunities to fall his way.
Therefore, Solanke would be a fantastic attacking option for Spurs and the club could get another top striker to compete with by signing David.
Why Spurs should sign Jonathan David
The 24-year-old star, who was hailed as “a wake-up call” for his country by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has been a top player in France in recent years and could step into Richarlison's prominent role.
If the Brazilian moves on, to the Pro League or elsewhere, then Spurs can improve their squad by trying to sign David in response.
The Lille player, who has scored 28 goals in 54 games for Canada, has scored 121 goals in 267 games for his team so far, which speaks to his ability to score goals regularly.

As you can see in the table above, David surpassed Richarlison as both goalscorer and goal creator during the 2023/24 campaign, with eight more goals and twice as many 'big chances' created in their respective leagues.
The £25m international scored 24 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances last season, taking his tally to 43 in the last two league campaigns.
These statistics indicate that David has the ability to score goals at an impressive rate at the highest level, although he has no evidence in the Premier League.
This means Spurs could end up with two strikers in their squad – Solanke and David – who both scored 19 goals in Europe's top leagues last season, which could give Postecoglou all the boost he needs to push for a top-four finish, and maybe even more.
