Canelo's “What If”: PBC Over Golden Boy
Superstar Canelo Alvarez says his career would have been better if he had inked with Al Haymon's PBC rather than Golden Boy Promotions.
If Canelo had signed with PBC, he would have been fighting guys like Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez. Those are the top names for those guys in Canelo's weight class. It is unlikely that Canelo would be better if he fought for the PBC than Golden Boy unless he is willing to fight Jermall or Benavidez who are equal to light heavyweight.
Since the PBC was founded in 2015, it would have been impossible for Canelo to have been with them since the beginning of his career in 2004.
Golden Boy's Lineup
He signed with Golden Boy Promotions in 2010 and fought the following famous fighters:
– Gennadiy Golovkin x 2
– Shane Mosley
– Miguel Cotto
– Floyd Mayweather
– Austin Trout
– Amir Khan
– Sergey Kovalev
– Daniel Jacobs
Whether the PBC would have offered those same terms for Canelo to fight from 2015 to 2024 is unknown. Otherwise, it's likely that Canelo will be restricted to PBC management:
– David Benavidez
– Demetrius Andrade
– Anthony Dirrell
– Carlos Adames
– Terence Crawford
– Marcus Browne
“I think I could have done better with PBC, much better. I did good things with Golden Boy and that didn't bother me, but I think it would have been better with PBC,” said Canelo speaking to the Million Dollars Worth of Game YouTube channel.
Canelo's career would look a lot different if he had PBC from the start than it does now, but I'm not sure if it would have been better.
