Premier League finishes, top scorers and season previews

Brentford will rely on Thomas Frank's coaching staff in 2024/25 amid fears the Bees could be dragged to the brink of relegation.

A cloud of uncertainty has moved over west London ahead of the new season, with a quiet summer transfer window creating hope for fans following three successful Premier League campaigns.

A 16th-place finish signaled a drop in performance, although several mitigating factors were at play. Brentford will benefit from enjoying star man Ivan Toney throughout the campaign after the England international missed the first half of last season due to a betting suspension.

Bees signing Toney is an undoubted improvement, but how far can he and Frank take the London club in 2024/25? Here it is 90 min a preview of Brentford's upcoming campaign.

Brentford are preparing for their fourth straight season in the top flight having secured promotion to the play-offs in 2021. The Bees enjoyed mid-table safety during their first Premier League draw before slipping to 16th last season.

The club have struggled in domestic cup competitions outside of the semi-finals of the 2020/21 Carabao Cup while still playing in the Championship. Brentford have not reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in the last five seasons.

There were a few shirt number changes with new signing Igor Thiago taking over Kevin Schade's number nine shirt. The German will now wear the seven, previously worn by Neal Maupay, in 2024/25.

There has been continuity on the number front, with new signings with an array of options available.

Brentford have revealed their home kit for both the 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns two years ago, meaning it is the same shirt they wore last season. This is done to stabilize and make the shirts more affordable for their fans.

The Bees have produced an away top for the first time in their history, and the green third kit takes inspiration from the design of the Gtech Community Stadium.

Ivan Toney he must be expecting to leave this summer but the England player remains a Bee entering the final year of his contract. With high-net-worth suitors failing to come forward, this is a year of confirmation for the striker.

Toney scored 12 and 20 goals in his first Premier League campaigns before scoring just four goals in the second half of 2023/24. It is expected that this English player who worked very well alongside Brentford stars who play for Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.

Mbeumo often benefits from Toney's participation game and will have a chance to score more goals. The Frenchman has scored nine league goals in the past two seasons.

Summer arrival Igor Thiago has started pre-season in good form but the new arrival will not feature until December at the start after picking up a knee injury.

The pessimism surrounding Brentford going into 2024/25 is understandable. There is a chance for the Bees to stay up after a disastrous 16th place finish last season.

Toney's retention, of course, is huge. Despite enduring a quiet end to 2023/24 after a lengthy return to action, the striker could enjoy a bounce-back campaign this season and his form should ease relegation fears.

Frank should try to come out smart given the small size of the squad, as it is likely that Brentford will improve significantly on last season's performance. They should be tough and hard to beat at home, with the points they kept at Gtech confirming their status as a Premier League side for another season.
