Ten Hag reunited with De Ligt and Mazraoui

Erik Ten Hag has brought his former Ajax stars Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui to Man United from Bayern Munich.

Netherlands defender de Ligt has agreed a five-year deal worth £40m and Morocco defender Noussair Mazraoui has agreed a four-year deal, with the fee potentially rising to more than £15m.

Although his arrival was dependent on the departure of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham, with United hosting Fulham in their Premier League opener on Friday night, the versatile Mazraoui could start at left-back with Luke Shaw out due to a calf injury. .

De Ligt, 25, captained Ajax's Ten Hag side to the semi-finals of the 2019 Champions League, where they were badly beaten for a long time.

He and Mazraoui will be joined by former Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, defender Lisandro Martinez and winger Anthony.

De Ligt told the club's website: “As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt excited about the opportunity of a new challenge at a club with history.

“In the discussions that followed, I was impressed by the vision set by the football leadership, and the role they saw for me in it.

“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me and I can't wait to work with him again.

“I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I'm determined to continue that record at this special club.”

De Ligt has 45 caps for his country and has won the league with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern Munich.

Dutch-born Mazraoui helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.

The 26-year-old told United's website: “It's amazing to be a Manchester United player, and I can't wait to go out to Old Trafford in the red shirt.

“I know I am joining the team at an exciting time; everyone I've spoken to has the same desire for us to win trophies together and I feel determined to achieve that.”

“Erik ten Hag has played an important role in my development as a player, so it's great to be reunited with him as I enter the early years of my life. I know what he expects from his players, and I will do everything to help the team win.”
