Ben Davies made an important decision
It's an important season for Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham Hotspur, as their dealings in the transfer window can attest.
Impressive moves from Archie Gray and Dominic Solanke have shown the North London side's intent, as they look to build on a disappointing 2023/24.
Although the Lilywhites will see European football return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season, it is true that all involved would have preferred it to be the Champions League rather than the Europa League.
Ben Davies of Tottenham has made an important career decision
In April, Spurs were in the knockout stages to do so, but five defeats in their last seven games – their two wins coming against Burnley and Sheffield United – saw Aston Villa snatch fourth place at the expense of the North Londoner.
Ange Postecoglou's disappointment at the time was palpable, and the Australian will no doubt expect more from his players this season.
One of those will be Ben Davies, who has decided to see out the final 12 months of his contract at the club, Football Insider.
It is believed that Davies, who has made 330 appearances for the club, will move on this summer, but the report makes it clear that the manager has no qualms about having the Welshman as a valued member of the squad.
Davies will only be 32 at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and he certainly has a few more seasons at least at top level.
Whether Spurs allow him to leave on a free next summer or try to persuade him to stay in January is a moot point at this stage.
Just 18 appearances in all competitions last season (WhoScored) would suggest a clean break is the most likely scenario.
