Bryson DeChambeau, John Daly – and 7 sightings as they try to break 50

John Daly, who may have witnessed his 37-year professional career, takes his club through a back-and-forth streak. Unusual movements are among, let's say, many of them eccentricities.

So, too, it seems, is the story of its origin.

“I've never had short clubs,” Daly explained. “I took out my dad's clubs when I was 4, and the first club I hit was a 4-iron. I was weak, the club just fell.

“Then I saw the club with my left eye, that's when I thought you should go down.”

Daly was talking about Bryson DeChambeau's youth 50th break It's a YouTube video, and there's a draw to click on. There are DeChambeau, U, S. Open the strange winner in completely different ways. There's an idea: DeChambeau and a guest are trying to capture the under-50s from the course's top players. Last month, he tried with Donald Trump.

This repetition was played by Daly, who won the championship when his swing was born in 62 seconds. Remarkably, after asking his two-time teammate about it, DeChambeau himself gave it a try. He shrank, Daly laughed.

2. 'Keep your grip, not your clubs'

DeChambeau, as has been widely reported, plays with single-length instruments, and Daly noticed in the distance, shortly after the return speech. He also saw that DeChambeau played with a lot of grip, which led to this exchange:

Said DeChambeau: “Great catch.”

Said Daly: “Like me.”

Said DeChambeau: “Yes.”

Daly said: “It's all about trying to teach beginners how to play golf. Practice your grip, not your clubs. The little catch is – if you put your hands on the catch, and then you put them back, and there's a gap between your left arm and your right hand, you're tied. That means you don't control the golf club. So go get fitted to catch up. No one does that.”

Said DeChambeau: “Nobody.”

Daly said: “No one is doing it. I think the more grip you have, the better you will play.”

DeChambeau said: “Yes, agree.”

3. 'Comfort and control'

Throughout the round, Daly played barefoot, and on the 18th hole, DeChambeau joined him. After their shoot, Daly revealed that she was practicing on her shoes.

“Do you know why?” Daly asked. “Balance.”

He asked DeChambeau: “Are you feeling better?”

Daly said: “Balance.”

Said DeChambeau: “Does it give you that comfort and control?”

Said Daly: “Especially 120.”

4. 'I would have been No. 1 putter on the PGA Tour'

After 11 years, DeChambeau asked Daly what his best hitting streak was.

“In '04, when I won Torrey Pines, Vijay beat me in the playoff, Tiger beat me in the playoff,” Daly began. “But that year, I dedicated myself to training, because, you know, I didn't have any injuries at that time.

“I was going to be the No. 1 putter on the PGA Tour — and I was.”

Said DeChambeau: “That's amazing.”

Said Daly: “I just got tired of hitting the greens…”

Said DeChambeau: “Missed putts?”

Daly said: “It wasn't like 5-footers and 4-footers. I mean, it was like 10 footers you had to make if you were going to win. Fifteen feet. Whether it was for a birdie, an eagle, etc. Pars are the most important because that keeps going. Bad chip? Okay, just make the putt.

“So I dedicated myself, and I think I probably hit – I can't imagine how many putts I hit that year, just practicing.”

DeChambeau said: “That's it. I was a bad putter. I tried to put on a face. I don't know if you remember that. Like, I was doing a facial. I was doing everything.”

Said Daly: “Old Sam Snead.”

DeChambeau said: “Yes, yes. And it didn't work for me, but eventually I found something that worked and I just used it from there.”

Daly said, extending his fist for a fist bump: “You're a big winner, baby. Like me.”

(Editor's note: It was unclear what figure Daly was referring to, although in 2004, he was ranked fifth on the PGA Tour in putting average, at 1.736.)

5. It's the worst thing in life. Look at me'

Several times during the round, DeChambeau began to calculate what it would take on the upcoming holes to break 50, but was stopped by Daly.

After the first hole, Daly's advice was: “No, no, we're going to play [hole] 2.”

After the seventh hole, his thought was: “Never go overboard.” It is the worst thing in life. Look at me.”

6. 'How many handsome boys are there today?'

During the round, Daly drank Good Boy Vodka drinks emblazoned with his name and picture, and a member of DeChambeau's team at one point wondered:

“How many Pretty Boys are there today?”

“Oh, I started drinking at 9 this morning,” said Daly. “Uh, maybe 20.

“I slowed down. I slowed down a bit. Because this is an important day – I have my son, and we will break 50. ”

Where the drinks were kept is also worth mentioning.

They were under the hood of his golf cart. A look showed about 25 waiting to be opened.
