Kevin Durant Reveals How LeBron James Joined Team USA 'Avengers'
Kevin Durant explained how Team USA's star-studded squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics came together.
The leader, of course, was LeBron James.
“Last summer, 'Bron started texting everybody, giving his opinion on who we all thought should be on the team, and (asking) if everybody was playing,” Durant told Sam Amick of The Athletic. When we started sending those (types of) texts, I knew we were all going to meet and that this was a special time.
“I knew Steph was going to play. He had never been on an Olympic team before. He had a world championship but wanted an Olympic medal. So it was a no-brainer, especially when these two committed, and when the team was formed, I knew it was going to be special. “
Curry also had a story to share about how things came together.
“In '22, on the way back from Boston, I joked (with Kerr) that it was the only thing I didn't do, and I committed to it,” Curry told The Athletic.
“(Then) last September, I watched the World Cup and I understood that this was something I did not do. I felt healthy, and I could do it, so that would be something I would like to do. 'K' said the same. The letters started flying.”
The result was spectacular, as the United States won its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal.
Steph Curry was instrumental in Team USA's success, with 36 points against Serbia in the semifinals and 24 points against France in the finals.
