Man City suffered a major injury to Oscar Bobb on the eve of the new season

Manchester City striker Oscar Bobb is facing the possibility of being sidelined after breaking a bone in his leg during training.

The Norwegian has impressed in pre-season for Pep Guardiola's side, scoring against Celtic and Chelsea in friendlies in the United States before assisting Bernardo Silva with a Community Shield equalizer against Manchester United as the Cityzens won on penalties.

However, as he looks set to play a key role in the start of their Premier League title defence, Bobb will now have to watch from the sidelines with City considering sending him to Barcelona for further treatment.

BBC Sport The reigning English champions added that they were yet to assess the extent of the injury to the 21-year-old, who was expected to feature in their league opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

A number of international stars have recently returned to Pep Guardiola's squad, with winger Jack Grealish missing the Community Shield due to fitness concerns.

Bobb made 14 Premier League appearances last season, starting two games, and recorded a goal and an assist alongside another strike in the Champions League. He signed a new five-year contract in February.

His absence would mean that Phil Foden is restored to a starting XI who has not played since the Euro 2024 final, but Guardiola still has plenty of other options in wide areas. The likes of Silva, Jeremy Doku and Savio are all available this weekend and should get minutes at Chelsea.

One player is former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager Julian Alvarez, who has joined Atletico Madrid for a transfer fee that could rise to €95m if add-ons are met.

There were also shocking links with Liverpool and Colombia star Luis Diaz, but those rumors were quickly put to rest.
