Nico Ogbeide is eager to continue his career and fight on a televised card

by Paul Webb

NICO OGBEIDE wants to see his name on the big screen, but first he has to take care of business on Saturday night at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham on the BCB Promotions 'For King and Country' undercard.

The 30-year-old from the second city has been heavily linked with a television card, and after working full time to secure a sponsor, 'The Alchemist' has plenty of motivation to keep his career going.

“This fight is about being busy, said Ogbeide. “I consider it just another opportunity to gain experience and return to the ring. I want to get into the next big show. I was offered a big fight recently, but it didn't work out, not from my side, but after I got this win, I hope they can reschedule it and I can play on TV. I want to be able to show off everything I've been working on, and if it happens, I'll make the most of the opportunity.”

The build-up to the fourth fight saw Ogbeide clash with former European champion Jordan Gill and former British champion Raza Hamza.

“My sponsor friends know Jordan, that's how it was, and when you pick up a world-class person like him, you learn a lot,” he said.

“He's a stage above me, but it was a great experience and I took a lot from that session.”

Ogbeide is unbeaten in three bouts after joining the professional ranks last October. This will be his third time boxing at the Eastside Rooms, most recently defeating Simas Volosinas in April.

“I feel like I'm in my prime and working hard, I'm eager to get things going and a good win on Saturday night will help push my plans forward.”

The match is the lead-up to the much-anticipated vacant English title clash between Troy Jones and Leon Willings, with an undercard packed with Midlands champion Ryan Griffiths and unbeaten duo Levi Vaughan and Yahya Abdullah.

The last remaining 'Country and Country' tickets are available now priced at £40 standard and £80 VIP from the boxers directly or by emailing [email protected].

Due to limited seating media clearance must be requested by email by Thursday.
