Rio Ferdinand thinks Leny Yoro is the best back in the world for his age
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes summer signing Leny Yoro is the best center in the world at his age.
The 18-year-old completed a move to Old Trafford from French side Lille earlier this summer in a deal worth £52m.
Despite the youngster's preferred destination being Real Madrid, United managed to convince the youngster to move to Old Trafford.
Yoro is the best center in the world for his age
During his time at Lille Yoro established himself as one of the best young defenders in Europe and alongside Madrid, Liverpool and Paris Saint Germain were also interested in the Frenchman.
However, for United, Yoro did not play for about three months after he injured his foot in a pre-season friendly with Arsenal in America.
means United fans will have to wait that long to see their new player play, but according to Ferdinand it will be worth the wait as he believes Yoro is the best center in the world at his age.
“I watched this kid a few times, I saw a lot of his brilliance, and I feel that for his age he is the best in the world,” he told his YouTube channel.
“In those years, no one – I don't think – around him in those years has the knowledge he has in those years. No one comes close.
“I think his ceiling is very high but he needs to make the right decisions. I am taking those steps.”
Ferdinand played a key role in convincing the player to join United and held talks with the boy about a move.
Yoro is not the only defender United have signed, with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui joining German giants Bayern Munich, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka has left West Ham.
