Should you pick him for FPL Gameweek 1?
Cole Palmer was a key option in 2023/24 Fantasy Premier League.
The midfielder enjoyed his first season at Chelsea and was the top scorer in FPL, starting the campaign for a paltry £5m. There was no other option for England's top scorer.
While Palmer has doubled in price in 2024/25 FPL, he remains the most popular option in Chelsea's side under new management. However, following a busy summer of Euro 2024 fixtures with England, he is doubtful to start the Blues' opening game of the campaign.
Here's the latest fitness update for the 22-year-old.
Fear not Chelsea fans, Palmer is unharmed. However, after a busy summer of international football which saw England reach the final of Euro 2024 – Palmer scoring in a 2-1 defeat by Spain – the youngster has just returned from a long break.
Palmer played his first pre-season game of the summer last Sunday but appeared on the bench in the second half. He drew 1-1 with Serie A champions Inter but it may take some time before he is sharp in the game.
As a result, new manager Enzo Maresca may be tempted to rest him against his former employers Manchester City in Chelsea's Premier League opener on Sunday afternoon.
Maresca did not elaborate on Palmer after last weekend's friendly draw with Inter but admitted that the Chelsea star, along with a number of his teammates, need to be fit for the new season.
Whether Palmer will be able to do that ahead of Sunday's clash with Man City remains to be seen but Palmer's importance to Chelsea suggests he could feature somewhere. However, given the wealth of options available to the Blues, he could be used on the bench.
Given that Cole Palmer (£10.5m) is now expensive, he is the only midfielder out of reach for managers looking to replace the Chelsea midfielder. Mohamed Salah (£12.5m). However, if you can, you should find a way to get the Liverpool star in your team.
Bukayo Saka (£10m) again Son Heung-min (£10m) both are good premium options and start the season with easy games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City respectively. Phil Foden (£9.5) again Kevin De Bruyne (£9.5m) They are also excellent options for Man City, but the former could be rested in Gameweek 1, too.
For a cheap price, you have it Bruno Fernandes (£8.5m) of Manchester United and Martin Odegaard (£8.5m) of Arsenal. Both are key creators for their sides and should carry some impressive points at the end of the campaign.
