La Liga finish, top scorer and season preview
After their worst finish in La Liga in the last five years, Atletico Madrid are hoping to bounce back in their 2024/25 season with the help of several new signings.
Last season, Atletico Madrid were a long way from their campaign to win the 2020/21 La Liga. The team finished fourth in the Spanish league, was eliminated from the Champions League in the quarterfinals, and fell to the semifinals of the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup.
Diego Simeone's side are looking ahead to the 2024/25 season, however, and much of that is down to their new players. Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth, and Robin Le Normand will look to help Los Colchoneros find their winning ways and return the club to the top of La Liga.
Here it is 90 min season preview of Atletico Madrid's 2024/25 campaign.
Atletico Madrid's biggest success in the last five seasons came in 2021 when they won La Liga. Besides, Diego Simeone's team has struggled to surpass Real Madrid and Barcelona, especially last season when they managed to finish in fourth place, the worst in years.
Los Colchoneros have also struggled in the Champions League, failing to make the semi-finals in one of their last five European campaigns.

A minor jersey change has gone on at Atletico Madrid to suit their new team. After the departure of Alvaro Morata, Julian Alvarez will wear the number 19 jersey. Alexander Sorloth chose number 9, vacated by Memphis Depay.
Pablo Barrios switched from 24 to 8, leaving Robin Le Normand free to take the 24 shirt.

The third kit
Atletico Madrid have yet to officially release their 2024/25 third kit.
It's usually a safe bet to say Antoine Griezmann he will be Atletico Madrid's top scorer. The Frenchman led the team last year with 16 goals in La Liga, which saw him finish sixth in the Pichichi race. The 33-year-old also scored a further eight goals in all competitions, taking his tally to 24.
Griezmann will have plenty of help up top this season, however, for the first time in a long time. Alexander Sorlothwho scored the second goal (23) in La Liga last season at Villarreal, moved to Diego Simeone's side this summer, and is expected to produce similar numbers in the 2024/25 season.
In addition, This is Julian Alvarez's place The arrival promises to be the most powerful attack of Atletico Madrid in years. The former Manchester City player recently helped Argentina win the Copa America back in July, and has the quality in the final third to bring his tally into double figures in La Liga alone.
Atletico Madrid will look to improve on their disappointing fourth place finish last season. With three key players signed, it's hard to imagine Simeone's side allowing another mid-tier club to overtake them at the top.
Then, the question becomes: can they surpass Barcelona and Real Madrid? Maybe on the field, sure; After all, Atletico Madrid is the only team to beat Los Blancos in the 2023/24 La Liga season. Yet they have struggled in recent years to find the level of consistency needed to pick up three points week in week out.
Real Madrid are clear favorites to win La Liga after signing Kylian Mbappe, while Barcelona have a proven squad capable of conquering the Spanish league, leaving Atletico Madrid determined to finish behind the two.
