Stephen Fulton-Carlos Castro Advances to PBC in Prime Video Tripleheader Ahead of Canelo-Berlanga PPV

The three-fight free-to-view will precede the Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez-Edgar Berlanga Pay-Per-View event.
As previously reported by The Ring, the free PBC on Prime Video card is headlined by Stephen Fulton-Carlos Castro featherweight. Two more fights have also been confirmed for the September 14 show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Roiman Villa and Ricardo Salas will face each other in the fringe welterweight championship. Opening the tripleheader, Canelo's stablemate Jonathan 'La Roca' Lopez takes on San Antonio's Richard Medina in an eight-round affair.
The Prime Video portion of the three-fight card will air live beginning at 6:00 pm ET/3:00 pm PT. Viewers don't have to buy PPV or have a prime membership to watch the best show.
Philadephia's Fulton (21-1, 8 knockouts) is fighting for the first time since the lone loss of his career. The former WBC/WBO 122-pound champion was knocked out in the eighth round by Naoya Inoue (27-0, 24 KOs) last July 25 in Tokyo.
Ring's No. 1 rated 122-pounder will now test the featherweight waters. He was initially upset that he didn't make the PPV undercard, after already losing on the Aug. fight date. Calmer heads have since prevailed, as Fulton is set for a new arena, weight and team now coached by Derek 'Bozy' Ennis.
“It's been a long time coming, but I'm excited to be back in the ring,” Fulton said. “I've been to the gym and learned new tricks with Bozy Ennis that I can't wait to show my fans and the boxing world.
“This is a big event. I plan to prove myself on the way to becoming a two-division world champion.”
Castro (30-2, 14 KOs) is looking to extend his three-fight winning streak after a losing streak.
The 30-year-old Phoenix-based Mexican boxer dropped the Feb. 2022 split for two-division fighter Luis Nery (35-2, 27 KOs). The fight took him out of contention for the title.
That was the case when Castro was stopped in the sixth round by Brandon Figueroa (25-1-1, 19 KOs) later that January. Three wins in his hometown of Phoenix restored his confidence. However, the idea of dismantling Fulton's plans is the real driving factor here.
“Fighting Fulton will bring out the best in me. I can promise you that,'' said Castro. “These opportunities come up often. I will use the opportunity because my life has been boxing since a long time ago. Come Sept. 14 I will be more entertaining than all the boxers that night.''
Venezuela's Villa (26-2, 24 KOs) has not fought since a ninth-round submission loss to Jaron 'Boots' Ennis (32-0, 29 KOs) last July 9 in Atlantic City. This battle has won seven battles.
“I'm very happy to be back in the ring and I'm ready to chase my dream of becoming a world champion,” said Villa. “I am 100% determined to make the most of this opportunity. My team has put me in a good position and now it's up to me to get it out of the ring.
“I learned a lot from my last fight and I can't wait to show everyone what I can do on September 14.”
Salas (19-2-2, 14 KOs) is rising in competition but is surrounded by world-class talent. The 25-year-old from Mexico City has settled on former WBA 140-pound title holder Isaac 'Pitbull' Cruz.
However, it is the most famous Mexican icon that he hopes to emulate during Mexico's independence weekend.
“Since I started boxing, my goal was to fight in the US and Las Vegas like my idol Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.,” said Salas. “I can't wait for that dream to finally come true on September 14. I'm going to make sure that everyone knows my name after this fight.”
Tonight's first episode features one of the show's brightest prospects.
Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) has won inside the range in ten of his eleven starts. Eddy Reynoso trained and managed the 21-year-old fights for the third time in 2024, all in four months.
“I'm very excited about this opportunity,” said Lopez. “Thanks to Eddy Reynoso, Canelo and my whole team for putting me on this stage. This is a great opportunity for me to fight Canelo's undercard and I will make the most of it.
I'm ready to go out and give the fans a big fight they'll love.”
The night marks the first time Lopez has appeared on Canelo's undercard.
