Tottenham confirm Dominic Solanke's shirt number

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that record signing Dominic Solanke will wear the number 19 shirt in his first season at the club.

Solanke's move to Bournemouth, which would cost Spurs £65m if all add-ons are met, was confirmed last Saturday.

He was not given a team number when he arrived, but with the 2024/25 Premier League season officially kicking off on Friday, Tottenham have now announced Solanke's shirt.

The striker will don the number 19, which was released earlier this summer when Ryan Sessegnon returned to Fulham on a free transfer.

Before Sessegnon, Spurs cult hero Mousa Dembele wore 19 during his six-and-a-half-year stay in north London. It has previously been taken by players such as Sebastien Bassong, Adel Taarabt, Andy Reid and Chris Armstrong.

Solanke has never worn the 19 in his career, often preferring to take the traditional 9 shirt for strikers. However, that number belongs to Richarlison, who has insisted he will not leave Tottenham this summer.

After a full first week of training, Solanke is in line to make his Tottenham debut when they visit newly promoted Leicester City on Monday night.

Coach Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Solanke could start at the King Power Stadium and has been impressed with the striker this week.

“Thank you, it's what we expected, he's a great professional, he's a good person, he's settled in well in the dressing room,” Postecoglou said at a press conference on Thursday.

“Football-wise you can see that he has the same characteristics in what we want to do best. There is still time to adjust as we play a little bit and train differently and we have seen that with all the new players that it is coming in.

“So far he has fit in well with the team and training. We still have a few sessions but so far, so good.”
