Harvin Aguirre Drops, Knocks Out Alberto Mosquera Over Ten Rounds In Panama City
Harvin Aguirre sensed a long-distance battle was imminent after Alberto Mosquera tallied a one-hit shutout.
The feat led to a comfortable decision victory in favor of the Panama City-Nicaragua-based team. The scores belonged to Aguirre in their main ESPN Knockout event on Friday evening at the Coliseo de Combates in Panama City, Panama.
Mosquera entered the ring for the first time in over a year. The Panamanian southpaw was determined to show that his experience is too much for the 24-year-old in the welterweight division.
Aguirre came out the first few times to confirm his dominance. He was very effective on his right uppercut, landing convincingly in the second and third rounds.
The only stick of the night happened in the fifth round. A left hook to the temple by Aguirre was followed by a right hand over the top and a left hook to the body by Mosquera. Mosquera went down due to a slightly delayed reaction as a result. Aguirre let out a sob and taunted the fallen Panamanian before referee Hector Afu called him to the neutral corner.
The second half of the fight was less intense. Mosquera shot to the chin from time to time, as Aguirre's loose defense remains a liability. Aguirre was still able to stay composed but had a tougher time than in the first half defending Mosquera's offense.
It is enough to change the momentum to slightly strengthen the two score cards. However, Aguirre was in no danger of losing the fight.
The win raised Aguirre's record to 13-0, with nine shutouts. The three-fight knockout contest has come to an end, although the rising prospect has managed to add a notable name to his CV.
Mosquera dropped to 28-7-2, with 16 hits. The loss was his third in his last four games. He got a fourth round stoppage over Puerto Rico's Derrieck Cuevas (27-1-1, 19 KOs) on August 4th at this venue.
