Nelson: Only The Third Version Of Joshua Beats Usyk Five Out Of 100 Times
Boxing expert Johnny Nelson believes that the “third version” of Anthony Joshua rebuilt under trainer Ben Davison defeats Oleksandr Usyk only five times out of 100.
Nelson doesn't see enough improvement in 34-year-old two-time heavyweight champion Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) to predict a different outcome against two-time winner Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) in the rematch.
Low Level Objections and False Reconstructions
With a low level of objection that i “third version” Joshua has been through his last four fights, you can't say he has stepped up. Any trainer off the street could have trained Joshua to beat these four:
– Francis Ngannou
– Otto Wallin
– Roberto Helenius
– Jermaine Franklin
Making a match for Joshua is trickya way to remarket an old product to an unsuspecting public and give the appearance of progress. Joshua has not improved.
If the two are successful in their next fights, Joshua could face Usyk in a third fight. AJ challenges IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois next month on September 21 at Wembley Stadium in London. Usyk defends his three titles against Tyson Fury in a rematch on December 21 in Riyadh.
Joshua and Usyk are likely to win those fights, which could have a trilogy match. It will be up to the Honorable Turki Alalshikh and AJ's promoter, Eddie Hearn, whether they want to put together a third match between Joshua and Usyk.
Hearn will likely balk at the idea of Joshua fighting Usyk again and pushing Turki to match AJ and Fury's two losses, hoping the fans will ignore his recent loss to Usyk.
The 'Factory Version' Narrative Challenged
“The third version of AJ, the AJ that we've seen in the last few fights, who goes in there with belief and confidence, will he have the same belief and confidence when he goes in with Usyk knowing that this man is beaten. him twice?” said boxing analyst Johnny Nelson to Secondsout, discussing whether the so-called improved version of Anthony Joshua will beat United heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in a trilogy match.
“Now, if that AJ does show up, it would be a different kettle of fish, but I don't know. 100 times, AJ defeated Usyk five times and Usyk got his number. “AJ still has that opportunity, that ability to take him out, that's why he has the hope and desire to do that,” said Nelson.
Joshua's confidence will disappear if he enters with Usyk because he did not improve. Thanks to Hearn's magic tricks of false reconstruction, he has always faced weak opposition.
Joshua has not been rebuilt. He has matured and picked up bad habits due to the bad opposition Hearn fed him. If AJ fights Usyk the wrong way, as he has shown against Wallin, Ngannou, and Helenius, he will be exposed again.
The story that AJ's trainer, Ben Davison, rebuilt Joshua into a factory version in 2013 after he turned pro is false. Nothing has changed about Joshua.
He is not the fighter he was in 2013, shortly after his surprise gold medal victory at the 2012 London Olympics when he won against Italy's Roberto Cammarelle.
